Assistant Controller

We require an Assistant Controller for our office in Dover, Pennsylvania. This is a challenging and career-rewarding position.

Laborer

Able to perform routine tasks and duties assigned with occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Able to maintain a positive attitude and work safely. Willing to follow and learn all company standard procedures. Willing to work hard, minimize down time, and generally strive to improve the production of the crew. Duties include repair and install water and sewer lines, manholes, pumps station components, treatment plant components, clean-up jobsite and perform demolition work. Operate equipment including all-terrain fork lift, back hoe, dump truck, cement mixer, air compressor and tools, trash pump core drill and other equipment related to treatment plant construction.

Treatment Plant/Pump Station Superintendent

The job involves construction of treatment plants, pump stations and other similar projects constructed by the company. Candidate must have previous experience leading field crews on treatment plant and pump station construction projects. Work will involve trades such as millwright, pipefitting, carpentry, demolition, piling, dewatering and other trades. Experience in these trades is helpful. Jobsites are located throughout Maryland and Virginia.

Duties:

Your primary responsibility as a Superintendent is for the safety, production, and quality of the work. As the leader of the construction work, your duties include planning and executing work using standard procedures and communicating daily with the project manager. Report directly to General Superintendent. You must have a thorough knowledge of excavation, utility, mechanical and overall jobsite safety.
You are considered a leader, who must possess the ability to manage personnel and evaluate safety and quality. You are required to follow all policies and rules of Johnston Construction Company, and to physically assist in each phase of work to be done as required.

  1. Provide leadership to craftsmen, subcontractors, and vendors as necessary.
  2. Review subcontracts, material contracts and purchase orders. Understand scope and manage sub and vendor execution.
  3. Read, identify, and understand contract drawings and submittals. Work with documents on an intranet site and manipulate as required. Review and coordinate procedures for delivery, unloading, installation and startup to optimize production.
  4. Layout site work, structures, utilities, process piping and equipment installations from shop drawings and contract drawings.
  5. Plan work two to six weeks in advance. Turn in Two Week Look-Ahead schedules each week. Review, understand and record estimated production goals during planning and provide feedback during execution. Verify materials and subcontractors are adequately scheduled to make production goals. Review installation procedures with Project Manager, General Superintendent and Equipment Vendors as needed to ensure productivity goals are met.
  6. Communicate over and under budget items to Project Manager daily. Work to find creative solutions to improve budget issues.
  7. Handle personnel issue according to standard policies of the company. Provide honest and respectful feedback to craftsmen regarding safety, production and quality. Assist in efforts to recruit, train, motivate and retain the best craftsman in the industry. Document personnel issues during course of project.
  8. Provide clear direction to administrative staff as necessary to maintain a productive environment.

Treatment Plant Project Manager

Bid Administrator

JCC is looking for a Bid Administrator to support our estimating department in our quest to get new business. Responsible for soliciting pricing and assembling all necessary information required to submit a responsive bid on behalf of JCC. This position is part of JCC’s purchasing department.

Responsibilities:

     1. Assures the day-to-day functions of bid administration are completed to support corporate bidding efforts. This includes creating and sending RFQ’s to vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing.
     2. Work closely with estimators, vendors and subcontractors to assemble bids.
     3. Assures the timely and accurate receipt of bids and maintains vendor quote files by utilizing our paperless process.
     4. Builds and develops relationships with current key suppliers as well as identifies and develops new suppliers.
     5. Be able to communicate technical details of plans and specifications to estimators, vendors, and subcontractors.

Design-Build Project Manager

We require a Design-Build Project Manager for our office in Dover, Pennsylvania. This is a challenging and career-rewarding position.

Safety Professional

Job Reports to: President

The Safety Professional will provide site safety leadership, ensure compliance with corporate safety standards, implement safety directives, improve safety performance, and ensure safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.

Purpose:

  • To execute the Regional safety goals and support Corporate safety initiatives.
  • The Safety Specialist will interface with the mechanical, electrical, excavation/site work and concrete division.
Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill the requirement of the SSHO on a Design-Build NAVFAC project at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install measures, and manage return-to-work activities.
  • Ability to plan, train and enforce safety policies.
  • Facilitate and participate in all safety meetings.
  • Ability to work with medical providers to reduce recordable incidents and lead injured employees back to work at earliest possible date.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor and assess the execution of the safety policies.
  • Identify, analyze and control workplace hazards.
  • Perform safety behavioral audits and analyze statistics for audits.
  • Incorporate new OSHA/MSHA/DOT/Coast Guard regulations into the safety process and provide this information to managers and employees.
  • Organize and lead operational training sessions with staff.

Must have previous experience leading utility and excavation crews while operating and be fit for manual labor. Work will also involve carpentry, pipefitting, piling, dewatering and other trades. Experience in all trades is helpful. The job involves construction of treatment plants and pump stations. It also would include demolition, excavation, and cleanup work. Jobsites are located in Charles County, Anne Arundel County, and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Duties: Your primary responsibilities as a Utility Foreman are the operational planning, installation and/or repair of water, storm, sewer, gas, and conduit lines. In addition, you must have a thorough knowledge of excavation and overall jobsite safety. You are considered a leader, who must possess the ability to supervise other crew members and perform quality work. You are required to follow all policies and rules of Johnston Construction Company, and to physically assist in each phase of work to be done, which includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Read, identify, and understand blueprints related to all above and below ground utilities and excavations. Make sure you are working with up to date blueprints.
  2. Set up of lasers and/or transits for pipe installation and grading operations.
  3. Make sure there is enough of the following correct materials on site for today's and tomorrow's work:
    • The right size and amount of pipe and connectors.
    • The correct gaskets, retainers, and bolts.
    • Pipe soap, grease, PVC cement, mastic, and chlorine.
    • Sakrete for immediate use and/or concrete ordered as needed.
  4. Make sure the following tools are on site and in working order:
    • Transit
    • Laser
    • De-watering pumps
    • Tapping machine
    • Tampers
    • Pipe Saw
    • Hand tools
  5. Make sure the excavation is properly shored, sloped, or sheeted before anyone enters.
  6. Check to see that the proper stone and/or back fill material is ordered for the job as needed.
  7. Visually check for utilities, if utility locates are not marked or cannot be defined, check with the Foreman before you dig.

Crane Operator - Immediate Opening

Operate a 50 to 100 ton conventional friction crane to lift and move materials, machines, or products in many directions. The crane operator is also responsible for the maintenance and safety of the machinery, including checking the condition of the ground before setting up the crane, being aware of how much material can safely be hoisted in each load and maintaining cranes by inspecting them for defects or wear, lubricating ropes and winches and replacing worn cables.

Duties: The position of a Crane Operator requires the individual to possess the physical and mental ability to perform the following tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

  1. Successful operation of hydraulic, electric, and friction cranes for the purpose of moving equipment, supplies and materials from location to location and driving pile.
  2. Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and grappling devices.
  3. Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities in order to prevent overload.
  4. Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify problems or defects.
  5. Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving equipment.

Able to effectively communicate with English speaking crew, and read and write in English, the language of the crane literature.

Physical Exam Requirements:
    A. Crane operators shall have a current physician's certification, dated within the past 2 years, that states the operator meets the following physical qualifications:
  1. Vision of at least 20/30 Snellen in one eye and 20/50 in the other, with or without corrective lenses;
  2. Normal depth perception and field of vision;
  3. Ability to distinguish colors, regardless of position;
  4. Adequate hearing, with or without hearing aid, for the specific operation;
  5. Sufficient strength, endurance, agility, coordination, manual dexterity, and speed of reaction to meet the demands of equipment operation;
  6. No tendencies to dizziness or similar undesirable characteristics; and
  7. Has a negative result for substance abuse test.
  8. B. Evidence of physical defects, emotional instability that could render a hazard to the operator, others, or safe operation of the crane, or evidence that the operator is subject to seizures or loss of physical control shall be sufficient reason for disqualification. In such cases, specialized medical tests may be required to evaluate these conditions and determine their impact. C. All crane/derrick operators shall participate in a drug testing program and have a negative result for a substance abuse test. The level of testing will be in accordance with standard practices for industry or by the agency‘s random drug testing program. This test will be confirmed by a recognized laboratory service.

Mechanic/Pipefitter

Must have previous experience installing mechanical equipment, interior ductile iron pipe, and be fit for manual labor. Work will also involve carpentry, plumbing, and other trades. Experience in all trades is helpful. The job involves construction of treatment plants and pump stations. Jobsites are located in Charles County, Anne Arundel County, and Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Your primary responsibilities as a Mechanic/Pipe Fitter are the operational planning, installation and/or repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, mixers, diffusers, clarifiers, piping systems, supports, etc. In addition, you must have a thorough knowledge of overall jobsite safety. You are considered a leader, who must possess the ability to lead other crew members and perform quality work. You are required to follow all policies and rules of Johnston Construction Company, and to physically assist in each phase of work to be done, which includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Read, identify, and understand blueprints related to all above and below ground utilities. Make sure you are working with up to date blueprints.
  2. Follow O&M Instruction on the installation of mechanical equipment.
  3. Have a general knowledge of using basic rigging practices. Experience with equipment picks involving truck cranes, all terrain forklifts, etc. Interior rigging using chain falls, come a longs, etc.
  4. Make sure there is enough of the following correct materials onsite for today's and tomorrow's work.
    1. The right size and amount of pipe, fittings, and connectors.
    2. The correct gaskets and bolts.
  5. Make sure the following tools are on site and in working order.
    1. Pipe Saw
    2. Hand tools (Wrenches, grinding wheels, pry bars, impact)
    3. Etc.
  6. Plumbing, Threading, and/or Pipe Welding experience a plus. This includes Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, and PVC Pipe Materials.

Sheet Pile Foreman

The job classification of a "Sheet Pile Foreman" is considered to be a skilled position. This position is one of physical output and mental skill. A sheet pile foreman is responsible for the safety of employees, pedestrians, traffic, and equipment that enter their work area. A person selected for a sheet pile foreman must have prior experience installing various types of deep excavation support systems including sheeting, H-pile, and slide rail systems. Dewatering using wells, sumps and well-points is preferred. In addition, the foreman must:

  1. Be capable of obtaining security clearance for WSSC.
  2. Be committed to safety and qualify as a competent person for these activities.

Mid-sized Heavy Construction Contractor seeks an experienced Equipment Superintendent. The ideal candidate will have started in a shop mechanic role and advanced through the ranks to Shop Manager.

Pipelayer

Your primary responsibilities as a Pipelayer are the operational planning, installation and/or repair of water, storm, sewer, gas, and conduit lines. In addition, you must have a thorough knowledge of excavation and overall jobsite safety. You are considered a leader, who must possess the ability to supervise other crew members and perform quality work. You are required to follow all policies and rules of Johnston Construction Company, and to physically assist in each phase of work to be done, which includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Read, identify, and understand blueprints related to all above and below ground utilities. Make sure you are working with up to date blueprints.
  2. Set up of lasers and/or transits for pipe installation and grading operations.
  3. Make sure there is enough of the following correct materials on site for today's and tomorrow's work.
    1. The right size and amount of pipe and connectors.
    2. The correct gaskets, retainers, and bolts.
    3. Pipe soap, grease, PVC cement, mastic, and chlorine.

Mid Level Project Manager

We require a mid level Project Manager for our office in Dover, Pennsylvania. This is a challenging and career-rewarding position.
