Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- The project included geotechnical inspection, verification of bearing conditions, soil testing, concrete testing, and construction quality-control services.
- JCC prepared the tank site and installed erosion and sediment controls, a stone access road, crane work pad, and hoist deadman supports required for tank erection.
- JCC furnished and installed ductile-iron water piping extending from the tank foundation and completed the piping connection inside the tank pedestal.
- Electrical work included tank lighting, a lighting panel, grounding, underground electrical-service conduits, and connections to the cathodic-protection and tank-mixing systems.
- JCC coordinated its work with the tank contractor, Owner, Engineer, geotechnical consultant, testing agencies, and other project participants.
- The work included construction documentation, progress reporting, record drawings, testing records, warranties, operations and maintenance information, final cleaning, and project closeout.
- Johnston Construction Company performed the civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation portions of the Amblebrook Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Hunterstown, Pennsylvania.
- The project involved construction of a new 500,000-gallon, single-pedestal elevated potable-water storage tank approximately 142 feet 6 inches tall for The York Water Company. CB&I Storage Solutions LLC served as the tank contractor, while Johnston Construction Company served as the subcontractor responsible for the supporting foundation, site, piping, electrical, and instrumentation work.
- JCC’s work began with site layout, surveying, mobilization, and preparation of the tank construction area.
- The site was prepared to support foundation construction and the specialized equipment required for erection of the elevated steel tank.
- JCC installed and maintained erosion and sediment-control measures around the active construction area.
- Stone access was established around the completed foundation, along with a dedicated crane work pad for the tank-erection equipment.
Concrete Services Division
- Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the forming and concrete-placement work for the foundation of a new 500,000-gallon elevated potable-water storage tank.
- CSD formed the reinforced-concrete footing and curved foundation wall supporting the tank pedestal.
- The work included concrete placement for the footing, curved wall, and interior slab-on-grade.
- CSD completed concrete screeding, floating, machine troweling, point-and-patch work, curing, and installation of concrete accessories.
- Reinforcing-steel placement labor, dowels, and anchor-bolt setting were coordinated with Johnston Construction Company and the tank contractor.
- CSD coordinated concrete deliveries, testing-laboratory activities, pumping services, and construction equipment furnished or paid for by JCC.
- The foundation work was carefully sequenced to provide the dimensions, alignment, finish, and anchor-bolt positioning required for erection of the elevated tank pedestal.
- Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the concrete foundation work for the Amblebrook Elevated Water Storage Tank project at 1720 Hunterstown Road in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
- The overall project involved construction of a new 500,000-gallon, single-pedestal elevated potable-water storage tank for The York Water Company. CB&I Storage Solutions LLC served as the tank contractor, Johnston Construction Company performed the supporting civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work, and CSD served as JCC’s concrete subcontractor.
- CSD’s work focused on forming, placing, finishing, curing, and completing the concrete elements required for the tank foundation.
- The subcontract included mobilization and demobilization of concrete tools, equipment, and supplies needed to perform the work.
- CSD supplied the form-rental materials and form lumber required for the foundation.
- The forming work included approximately 245 square feet of footing forms and approximately 759 square feet of curved-wall forms.
- The forms were installed and braced to maintain the required shape, dimensions, alignment, and elevations during concrete placement.
Electrical Services Division
- Electrical Services Division, LLC performed the electrical and instrumentation work supporting construction of the new 500,000-gallon Amblebrook Elevated Water Storage Tank.
- ESD installed conduit, wiring, tank lighting, the lighting panel, grounding components, and electrical connections within the elevated tank.
- The electrical work supported the tank’s cathodic-protection and mixing systems.
- ESD furnished and installed the tank-service conductors between the tank lighting panel and a pull box outside the existing water-treatment building.
- The service-conductor installation included approximately 270 feet of copper conductors for the 100-amp tank electrical service.
- ESD installed two additional 1½-inch PVC conduits from the base of the tank to the top of the structure.
- Tee fittings were installed at the tank platforms to provide future conduit-extension options.
- The work required electricians to complete conduit installation along the elevated tank while coordinating with previously installed electrical pathways and tank access systems.
- ESD coordinated its work with Johnston Construction Company, CB&I Storage Solutions LLC, The York Water Company, and other project participants.
- Electrical Services Division, LLC performed the electrical and instrumentation portion of the Amblebrook Elevated Water Storage Tank project at 1720 Hunterstown Road in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
- The overall project involved construction of a new 500,000-gallon, single-pedestal elevated potable-water storage tank for The York Water Company.
- CB&I Storage Solutions LLC served as the tank contractor, Johnston Construction Company performed the supporting civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation subcontract, and Electrical Services Division, LLC served as JCC’s lower-tier electrical and instrumentation subcontractor. The project contract specifically identified ESD for the electrical and instrumentation work.
- The work supported the electrical systems installed within and around the elevated tank, including the tank lighting, lighting panel, conduit, wiring, grounding, and equipment connections.
- Electrical pathways were coordinated with the reinforced-concrete foundation and tank pedestal so that the required service and system conduits could be extended into the structure.
