Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- JCC’s scope included project coordination, site preparation, reinforced-concrete foundation construction, prefabricated station installation, underground water piping, electrical service, control systems, startup, and site restoration.
- The new station included three domestic-water pumps and one high-flow pump, along with process piping, valves, instrumentation, automatic controls, lighting, heating, ventilation, and electrical equipment.
- The work included modifications to the existing potable-water distribution system and installation of new underground piping, valves, fittings, restraints, and appurtenances.
- JCC removed and relocated an existing packaged water booster station, including associated mechanical, electrical, concrete, and site work.
- Construction was coordinated within an active military facility while maintaining access, security, utility service, and ongoing facility operations.
- Johnston Construction Company completed the Camp Fretterd Water Booster Station Improvements project in Reisterstown, Maryland. The project was performed for Maryland Environmental Service and designed by George, Miles & Buhr, LLC.
- The project consisted of construction of a new water booster station to increase pumping capacity and maintain residual water pressure throughout the Camp Fretterd water distribution system. The work also included modifications to the existing water distribution piping and removal and relocation of an existing booster station.
- JCC coordinated the overall construction effort, including submittals, work planning, equipment coordination, site preparation, excavation, concrete foundation construction, underground piping, electrical work, equipment installation, testing, startup, closeout, and final restoration.
- The principal component of the project was a new prefabricated water booster station. The packaged facility included three domestic-water pumps and one high-flow pump, along with internal process piping, isolation and check valves, instrumentation, pressure-monitoring equipment, automatic controls, electrical distribution equipment, lighting, heating, and ventilation systems.
- The booster station required construction of a reinforced-concrete foundation and equipment pad. The concrete work included excavation, subgrade preparation, reinforcing steel, formwork, concrete placement, finishing, curing, anchor bolts, piping penetrations, electrical conduit openings, and final preparation for installation of the prefabricated structure.
- JCC coordinated the foundation layout with the booster station manufacturer to ensure the anchor bolts, mechanical connections, electrical conduits, equipment clearances, and utility penetrations were correctly positioned before concrete placement.
- Following completion of the foundation, the prefabricated booster station was delivered to the project site, positioned, aligned, anchored, and connected to the exterior piping and electrical systems.
Concrete Services Division
- Concrete Services Division, LLC completed the concrete forming, placement, finishing, curing, and accessory work associated with the Camp Fretterd Water Booster Station Improvements project.
- The work included footing formwork, slab-on-grade formwork, special formwork, slab concrete placement, special concrete placement, floating, screeding, pointing, patching, curing, vapor-barrier installation, sawcut joints, and joint sealing.
- CSD installed approximately 278 square feet of footing forms, 64 square feet of slab-on-grade forms, and 252 square feet of special formwork.
- CSD placed approximately 18 cubic yards of slab-on-grade concrete and 8 cubic yards of special concrete.
- The concrete work included approximately 277 square feet of floated and screeded surfaces, 252 square feet of pointing and patching, and 871 square feet of concrete curing.
- CSD installed approximately 359 square feet of vapor barrier and completed the required sawcut joints and joint sealing.
- CSD coordinated concrete deliveries, pumping, testing, reinforcing-steel activities, anchor bolts, winter protection, and equipment furnished by Johnston Construction Company.
- Concrete Services Division, LLC completed the concrete portion of the Camp Fretterd Water Booster Station Improvements project in Reisterstown, Maryland. The project was performed as a subcontract to Johnston Construction Company for Maryland Environmental Service and was designed by George, Miles & Buhr, LLC.
- The overall project included construction of a new prefabricated water booster station to increase pumping capacity and maintain residual water pressure throughout the Camp Fretterd water-distribution system. CSD’s work provided the structural concrete foundation and associated concrete improvements required to support the new booster-station facility.
- CSD coordinated the concrete construction with Johnston Construction Company’s project schedule, the prefabricated booster-station layout, underground piping, electrical conduits, reinforcing steel, anchor bolts, equipment penetrations, and other embedded components.
- The forming scope included approximately 278.39 square feet of footing formwork, 64 square feet of slab-on-grade formwork, and 251.70 square feet of special formwork.
- The special formwork supported the unique foundation geometry and equipment requirements associated with the packaged booster station. Form locations, dimensions, openings, and elevations were coordinated with the approved equipment and foundation drawings before concrete placement.
- CSD furnished the rental form material, form lumber, fasteners, bracing, and labor necessary to install and strip the forms. The completed forms established the dimensions and elevations required for the station foundation, slab, equipment-support areas, penetrations, and concrete edges.
- Concrete Services Division placed approximately 18.04 cubic yards of slab-on-grade concrete and approximately 8.07 cubic yards of special concrete.
B & R Electrical Contractors
- B & R Electrical Contractors, Inc. completed the electrical work associated with the Camp Fretterd Water Booster Station Improvements project.
- The project included electrical demolition, conduit, wiring, connections, underground ductbank construction, inspection, testing, and startup services.
- BRE relocated the existing autodialer and antenna and completed the conduit, wiring, and signal connections required for continued alarm communication.
- The work included direct-buried PVC conduit and underground ductbank construction, including conduit routed across the generator slab in accordance with the project drawings.
- BRE reconnected the applicable circuits associated with the existing generator and automatic transfer switch serving the improved booster-station facilities.
- The electrical work was coordinated with Johnston Construction Company, the prefabricated booster-station installation, existing utilities, equipment furnished by others, and ongoing operations at the active Camp Fretterd facility.
- BRE completed record drawings, inspection coordination, testing, and one day of startup and verification of the autodialer signals.
- B & R Electrical Contractors, Inc. completed the electrical portion of the Camp Fretterd Water Booster Station Improvements project in Reisterstown, Maryland. The project was performed as a subcontract to Johnston Construction Company for Maryland Environmental Service and was designed by George, Miles & Buhr, LLC.
- The overall project included construction of a new packaged water booster station to increase pumping capacity and maintain residual water pressure throughout the Camp Fretterd water-distribution system. The project also included modifications to the existing potable-water piping and removal and relocation of an existing booster station.
- BRE coordinated its electrical work with Johnston Construction Company’s overall construction schedule, the new prefabricated pumping-station installation, the existing generator and automatic transfer switch, underground utilities, and equipment furnished by other project participants.
- The principal electrical work included demolition, conduit, wire, and field connections required to support the new and modified booster-station systems. BRE furnished and installed the conduit and conductors included in its subcontract and coordinated the electrical connections with the approved project drawings and equipment requirements.
- Underground electrical work included excavation and installation of direct-buried PVC conduit and electrical ductbank. PVC-coated conduit crossing the generator slab was routed underground in accordance with the project drawings, and PVC conduit was used within the underground ductbank.
- The ductbank and conduit installation had to be coordinated with the concrete foundation, generator slab, underground water piping, site grading, and other utilities. BRE worked with JCC to establish the required conduit routes and connection points before affected concrete and site work were completed.
- BRE’s scope also included relocation of the existing autodialer and antenna. The autodialer provided alarm communication for the booster-station systems and had to be relocated while maintaining the required conduit, wiring, and signal connections.
