Key Accomplishments

Johnston Construction Company

  • Johnston Construction Company’s scope included demolition and removal of existing odor control components, replacement of filter media and gravel, installation of new air distribution piping, irrigation piping, geotextile fabric, irrigation control box, blower, blower pad, fiberglass enclosure, odor control piping, and site restoration.
  • The work required careful coordination with Anne Arundel County operations staff to maintain access to the pumping station and minimize disruptions to the facility.
  • The project required test pits and field verification because as-built drawings were not available for the existing soil odor filter, blower, and odorous air piping.
  • Johnston Construction Company completed the Cattail Creek Pumping Station Odor Control System project for Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works. The project was designed by Atkins and consisted of odor control rehabilitation work at the existing Cattail Creek Pumping Station.
  • The work generally included rehabilitation of the existing soil odor filter. Internal components and associated equipment within the soil odor filter were demolished, removed, and replaced with new piping, equipment, media, components, and appurtenances. The existing timber support system for the soil odor filter was required to remain, and its structural integrity had to be maintained throughout construction.
  • Johnston Construction Company performed investigative work to determine the location of existing odorous air piping and utilities before proceeding with demolition and new construction. Because as-built drawings were not available for the existing odor control system, test pit results and field verification were required before the final installation of new piping and equipment.
  • The demolition scope included removal of internal components of the soil odor filter, including soil media, air distribution piping, gravel, geotextile fabric, irrigation system, the odorous air line from the blower to the soil odor filter, the existing odorous air blower and blower pad, the existing odor control system control panel, and the existing irrigation system control panel.
  • The new work included installing internal soil odor filter components, air distribution piping, gravel, geotextile fabric, irrigation piping, irrigation control box, new odorous air blower, concrete pad, prefabricated fiberglass enclosure, blower intake piping, new odorous air piping from the blower to the existing soil odor filter, electrical wiring and conduit, odor control and irrigation system controls, and modifications to the existing motor control center to accommodate the new blower.
  • The project also included sitework necessary to restore disturbed areas to original condition. Work activities included submittal review, mobilization, erosion and sediment control, demolition, sitework, structural work, piping installation, odor control system rehabilitation, panel/control installation, start-up and testing, training, cleanup, and conditional acceptance.
  • Johnston Construction Company coordinated its work with Anne Arundel County operations staff and the project engineer to maintain site security, preserve access for maintenance vehicles, protect existing facilities, and keep the pumping station operational during construction.
  • The Project Was Completed On 25th November,2015

B & R Electrical Contractors

  • B & R Electrical Contractors, Inc. performed electrical work for the Cattail Creek Pumping Station Odor Control System project in Severna Park, Maryland.
  • The project included electrical support for rehabilitation of the odor control system at the Cattail Creek Pumping Station.
  • BRE’s scope included electrical demolition, conduit, wiring, new circuit breaker and starter bucket installation, control wiring, temporary / permanent wiring coordination, testing, inspection, as-built drawings, and closeout support.
  • Major work included demolition of existing soil odor control panel, conduit and wire, and installation of new conduit and wiring for odor filter blower and odor control system components.
  • BRE provided a new circuit breaker bucket and starter bucket for the existing Allen Bradley MCC to feed the filter sprinkler controller and soil odor filter blower.
  • BRE furnished and installed control wiring from the soil odor filter blower and filter sprinkler solenoid valve to the control cabinet.
  • The work required coordination with Johnston Construction Company, Anne Arundel County, Atkins, project specifications, equipment suppliers, testing services, and overall odor control system rehabilitation sequencing.
  • B & R Electrical Contractors, Inc. performed the electrical subcontract scope for the Cattail Creek Pumping Station Odor Control System project in Severna Park, Maryland. The work was completed under subcontract to Johnston Construction Company for Job No. 2014-11.
  • The overall project consisted of improvements to the odor control system at the Cattail Creek Pumping Station for Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works. The project included rehabilitation of the existing soil odor filter, replacement of soil odor filter media, replacement of the soil odor filter blower, miscellaneous piping and valves, irrigation system improvements, and electrical and instrumentation improvements.
  • BRE’s scope included furnishing labor, materials, tools, supervision, and electrical services necessary to complete the electrical work associated with the odor control system rehabilitation.
  • Electrical demolition work included demolition of the existing soil odor control panel, conduit, wire, and related electrical components associated with the existing odor control system.
  • New electrical work included furnishing and installing conduit, wiring, and connections required for the odor control system improvements. BRE also furnished and installed a new circuit breaker bucket and starter bucket for the existing Allen Bradley motor control center to feed the filter sprinkler controller and soil odor filter blower.
  • Control wiring work included wiring from the soil odor filter blower and filter sprinkler solenoid valve to the control cabinet as required for a complete and functioning odor control system.
  • BRE coordinated its work with the project requirements for Division 16 electrical work, including general electrical requirements, electrical devices, raceways, boxes, fittings, wires, cables, and low-voltage control requirements.
