Key Accomplishments

  • JCC installed new supports beneath existing digester piping, coordinating the work with piping-support improvements already included in the broader digester upgrades.
  • Furnished galvanized support materials including 6-inch ductile-iron pipe saddles with yokes for the digester piping system.
  • Furnished approximately 240 linear feet of 3-inch galvanized extra-heavy pipe and associated 3-inch 150-pound forged-steel slip-on flanges for fabrication of the support system.
  • Coordinated preparation and sandblasting of existing immersed digester piping in both anaerobic digesters.
  • Applied a protective coating system consisting of two coats of epoxy paint to the existing piping and pipe supports.
  • Coordinated specialized coating work with Wenrich Painting, including surface preparation, epoxy coating, and required field touch-up in both digesters.
  • Removed sand from the digesters and transported it to a location designated by the City as part of the support and coating work.
  • Completed the rehabilitation while working within the existing wastewater treatment facility and coordinating the new support systems with existing process piping and ongoing digester improvements.
  • Johnston Construction Company performed pipe-support rehabilitation within Anaerobic Digesters 1 and 2 at the City of Frederick Wastewater Treatment Plant. The work addressed the existing support systems serving piping inside the digesters and incorporated new structural support components together with surface preparation and protective coating of the existing piping.
  • A significant component of the project involved fabrication and installation of a new center pipe-support tower within each digester. JCC also installed new support assemblies beneath existing digester piping, coordinating the work with other piping and support improvements being completed as part of the facility's broader digester-upgrade activities.
  • The new support construction incorporated galvanized components selected for the existing process-piping configuration. Project purchasing records document 6-inch ductile-iron pipe saddles with galvanized yokes, as well as approximately 240 feet of 3-inch galvanized extra-heavy pipe and associated forged-steel slip-on flanges for use in the support work.
  • JCC also coordinated rehabilitation of the existing piping surfaces within both digesters. The existing immersed piping was sandblasted to prepare the surfaces for recoating, followed by application of two coats of epoxy paint to the piping and support systems.
