Key Accomplishments
- Planned conduit installations to accommodate multiple stages of tank construction. Where required, conduits were capped and terminated below finished grade inside the foundation during early construction and later extended to their final locations after the elevated tank structure was completed.
- Coordinated the project’s new electrical service requirements with the overall tank-construction schedule. Where applicable, the subcontract required electrical-service coordination to begin within 30 calendar days of receipt of the subcontract so utility and service requirements would not delay the tank project.
- Carefully coordinated conduit and lighting routing throughout the elevated tank structure so electrical installations would not interfere with access ladders or create tripping hazards on operating and maintenance platforms. This required integration of the electrical system with the physical tank configuration and access systems.
- Coordinated electrical support locations with Caldwell’s tank fabrication and erection work. ESD was required to visit the site before completion of tank construction to verify that the electrical clips and supports furnished or installed by Caldwell were properly located for the final electrical installation.
- Returned to the completed facility following tank sterilization and filling to perform electrical-system startup, coordinating final energization and startup activities with Caldwell’s Project Manager after the water-storage tank had progressed to operational readiness.
- Coordinated required electrical inspection and testing activities with the applicable authorities having jurisdiction, supporting final verification and acceptance of the electrical installation as part of the completed elevated water-storage facility.
- Performed the electrical work under a tightly coordinated tank-construction schedule, with ESD’s activities sequenced around foundation work, tank erection, tank access components, sterilization, filling and final system startup. The subcontract specifically identified time as an essential requirement and required coordination with Caldwell’s issued-for-construction drawings and Project Manager.
- Electrical Services Division, LLC completed the electrical construction package for the Fawn Lake Water System – Masthope Water Storage Tank project in Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania. The project involved construction of a new 250,000-gallon Pedesphere elevated water storage tank for Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc., with Entech Engineering, Inc. providing engineering services and Caldwell Tanks, Inc. serving as the Prime Contractor and tank constructor.
- ESD’s electrical work was closely integrated with the construction of the elevated tank itself. The subcontract required ESD to furnish the supervision, labor, materials, supplies and equipment necessary for its electrical work and to coordinate its activities with the project plans and specifications, applicable addenda and Caldwell’s tank drawings.
- A significant portion of the early electrical work involved coordination with the tank foundation. ESD was required to submit conduit materials needed for foundation installation and coordinate directly with Caldwell and the foundation subcontractor. Electrical conduit sleeves and portions of underground conduit had to be installed during foundation construction, before the concrete work made those areas inaccessible.
- The foundation installations also had to account for later stages of construction. Certain conduits could be capped and terminated below finished grade within the tank foundation during early work and subsequently extended to their final locations following tank erection. This required the electrical installation to be planned around both the concrete foundation and the eventual configuration of the completed elevated tank.
- ESD also coordinated the project’s electrical service requirements. Where applicable, coordination for obtaining the new electrical service was required to begin shortly after subcontract execution so the service installation could progress in parallel with construction of the storage tank.
Project Description
Performed the electrical construction package for Aqua Pennsylvania’s new 250,000-gallon Pedesphere elevated water storage tank serving the Fawn Lake Water System. ESD furnished the supervision, labor, travel, materials, supplies, equipment and associated resources required to perform its electrical subcontract under Caldwell Tanks.
Coordinated the electrical installation directly with the elevated-tank foundation construction, providing required electrical conduit materials and installing electrical conduit sleeves and portions of underground conduit within the tank foundation before completion of the concrete foundation. This work required close coordination with Caldwell and the foundation subcontractor so embedded electrical components were correctly positioned before concrete placement.
