Key Accomplishments

  • The company removed and replaced two existing screen troughs with new stainless-steel trough assemblies featuring six-millimeter perforations.
  • JCC replaced the existing fine-screen side plates with new stainless-steel side plates.
  • The work included new stainless-steel wash-water piping and spray nozzles serving both fine-screen systems.
  • JCC completed the required mechanical and electrical disconnections, equipment removal, installation, reconnection, and startup work.
  • Heat tracing and insulation were installed on the new wash-water piping to protect the system during cold-weather operation.
  • Construction was carefully sequenced so one fine screen remained operational while work proceeded on the other unit.
  • JCC conducted performance testing and commissioning to verify the proper operation of the rehabilitated fine-screen systems.
  • Johnston Construction Company performed the WWTP Fine Screen Parts Replacement project at the Fort George G. Meade Wastewater Treatment Plant in Laurel, Maryland.
  • The project upgraded two existing mechanical fine screens that remove solids and debris from wastewater before the flow enters downstream treatment processes.
  • American Water Operations and Maintenance, LLC administered the project at the Fort Meade military installation and retained Johnston Construction Company as its subcontractor under Task Order No. 2.
  • Before construction began, JCC coordinated site access, safety requirements, project scheduling, equipment submittals, outage planning, quality-control procedures, and construction sequencing with American Water personnel.
  • Because the work occurred at an active wastewater-treatment facility on a military installation, JCC was required to comply with facility security, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
