Key Accomplishments

  • Installed project piping, valves, fittings and associated appurtenances and supported piping testing and sterilization.
  • Completed site development including erosion and sediment control, staking, excavation, grading, drainage, crushed-stone improvements and landscaping.
  • Provided electrical infrastructure and equipment supporting tank operations, including tank lighting, obstruction lighting, controls, instrumentation and SCADA-related connections.
  • Returned following tank filling and sterilization to support electrical system startup and final commissioning activities.
  • Johnston Construction Company served as the Civil Subcontractor to Caldwell Tanks, Inc. for construction of a new 500,000-gallon torus-bottom elevated water storage tank at Fort Meade, Maryland. American Water Enterprises was identified as the Owner under the contract documents. JCC's subcontract included the labor, supervision, permits, materials, supplies and equipment necessary to complete its assigned civil, piping, site and supporting electrical work.
  • The project also included installation and coordination of the piping systems and related site appurtenances required for a complete tank installation. JCC's scope addressed project piping, valves, accessories and fittings, along with piping testing and sterilization documentation. Supporting site improvements included the valve-vault work, gate-valve work, crushed-stone areas, laydown and access areas, drainage improvements, final grading and landscaping.
  • Electrical work supporting the tank installation included conduits through the foundation, a load-center panel, obstruction lighting, tank lighting, outlets, pressure-transducer wiring, mixer wiring, and connections associated with the SCADA panel and antenna furnished by others. JCC coordinated routing to avoid interference with tank ladders and access platforms and returned after tank sterilization and filling to support electrical system startup.
  • The work required close coordination with Caldwell Tanks and American Water so that the foundation, piping, access and initial site construction were completed ahead of Caldwell's tank erection activities. The subcontract specifically required these portions of the work to be ready before the tank erection crew mobilized, allowing tank construction and subsequent system startup to proceed in sequence.
  • The completed improvements provided the civil, structural, piping and electrical infrastructure necessary to support the new elevated storage tank and place the system into operation for the Fort Meade water system.
  • The Project Was Completed On 31st December, 2017
