Key Accomplishments

Johnston Construction Company

  • Removed existing pumps, valves, piping, control equipment, roofing, entry door, and other obsolete components required for the rehabilitation.
  • Installed two new dry-pit submersible pumps designed for approximately 132 GPM at 15–20 feet TDH.
  • Replaced suction and discharge piping and associated valves within the lift station.
  • Coordinated installation of a new duplex alternating pump control system with float-level controls.
  • Integrated new station equipment with American Water's existing SCADA / Industrial Control System, including RTU equipment, communications hardware, wiring, and programming.
  • Completed substantial rehabilitation of the existing masonry pump-station building, including the roof, gutters, entry door, louvers, windows, masonry repairs, and protective coatings.
  • Installed a new aluminum wet-well safety hatch and constructed improved concrete pedestrian access between the station building and wet well.
  • Rehabilitated dry-well access components and completed gravel, grading, compaction, and final site restoration.
  • Coordinated required electrical improvements and arc-flash analysis/labeling associated with the upgraded lift-station equipment.
  • Prepared required design submittals, construction documentation, and final as-built records.
  • Completed equipment startup, testing, commissioning, and operator training.
  • The project incorporated significant control and instrumentation improvements. A new duplex alternating pump-control arrangement with float-level controls was provided, together with the equipment required to integrate the upgraded station into American Water's existing Industrial Control System. The required SCADA improvements included RTU equipment, communications components, wiring, programming, and related interfaces necessary for station monitoring and control.

Electrical Services Division

  • Performed the electrical work associated with the Fort Meade Stables Sanitary Lift Station upgrade under Johnston Construction Company's civil subcontract.
  • Disconnected and demolished the existing electrical connections serving Sewage Pumps No. 1 and No. 2.
  • Furnished and installed conduit, wiring, junction boxes, and associated devices for power and control connections to two new 3.7 HP dry-pit Flygt pumps.
  • Core drilled the station floor to route pump cords to the upper level for connection to the new junction box.
  • Furnished cord connectors, cord grips, hardware, and link seals required for the new pump electrical connections.
  • Removed the existing pump control panel and existing float-control system.
  • Installed the new pump control panel furnished by others and reconnected existing branch-circuit conduits to the new panel.
  • Installed new conduit, wiring, junction boxes, and connections for the new wet-well level transducer.
  • Installed conduit, wiring, and controls for the backup float system.
  • Core drilled the wet-well ceiling to route level-transducer and backup-float cables to the new pump control panel.
  • Completed required mobilization, electrical submittals, shop drawings, and as-built/record documentation.
  • Supported system startup and operating instruction for the upgraded lift-station electrical equipment.
  • Electrical Services Division, LLC served as the Trade Subcontractor to Johnston Construction Company for the electrical portion of the Stables Sanitary Lift Station Upgrade at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. ESD's executed subcontract was issued by Johnston Construction Company for electrical improvements associated with the replacement of the station's pumping and control equipment.
  • The electrical work began with demolition and disconnection of the existing electrical connections serving Sewage Pumps No. 1 and No. 2. ESD also removed the existing pump control panel and float-control system and removed an existing wall penetration that was subsequently patched as part of the control-system replacement.
