Key Accomplishments

  • Maintained uninterrupted wastewater conveyance through temporary bypass pumping at both pump stations while the permanent facilities were being rehabilitated, including temporary connections to the existing force mains.
  • Removed existing wet-well and dry-well top slabs together with obsolete pumps, piping, ladders, platforms and associated equipment to prepare the stations for conversion to modern submersible pumping facilities.
  • Abandoned the existing dry wells at both locations and installed reinforced-concrete caps approximately 1.5 feet thick by 10 feet by 10 feet following demolition and placement of approved fill material.
  • At Pump Station No. 2, removed the existing approximately 4-foot-diameter upper wet-well section and installed a new 8-foot-inside-diameter reinforced-concrete wet-well section to accommodate the upgraded pumping equipment.
  • Rehabilitated the wet wells to create watertight 8-foot-diameter pumping structures, including concrete modifications and sealing or plugging of existing cracks, penetrations and abandoned piping.
  • Furnished and installed complete package submersible sewage pumping systems at both stations, including pumps, valves, controls, piping and wet-well appurtenances.
  • The specified pumping systems incorporated two submersible sewage pumps at each station, together with a complete spare pump and motor assembly for each location. The pump specification included 4-inch discharge pumps with motors up to approximately 15 HP.
  • Installed package pump-control equipment providing automatic pump sequencing, wet-well level control, alarm monitoring, redundant backup float control and operator-interface functions.
  • Coordinated adjustment of the new pump controls and integration with the Authority’s existing dialer, allowing the rehabilitated stations to continue providing automated monitoring and alarm notification.
  • Installed Type 316 stainless-steel trash baskets and guide-rail systems in the wet wells to intercept debris before it reached the new pumping equipment while allowing the baskets to be removed from grade for maintenance.
  • Furnished and installed associated process and force-main piping, valves, fittings, supports and appurtenances required to connect the rehabilitated facilities to the existing wastewater conveyance system.
  • Excavated and field-verified the existing force-main piping so appropriate transition connections could be selected and installed between the existing infrastructure and new pumping facilities.
