Key Accomplishments
- JCC contracted with Honeygo Run Reclamation Center, Inc. under a Republic Services Master Supplier Agreement and Work Order for the South Leachate Tank Replacement project.
- The project included construction of the Leachate Tank T-2 Replacement at the Honeygo Run Reclamation Center rubble landfill located at 10710 Philadelphia Road, Perry Hall, Maryland.
- The new tank system included a glass-fused-to-steel bolted primary containment tank and concentric secondary containment tank with appurtenances. The primary tank required a minimum capacity of 325,000 gallons at two feet of freeboard, and the secondary tank required a minimum capacity of 357,500 gallons at full height.
- The work required coordination with Honeygo Run Reclamation Center, Republic Services, AECOM Technical Services, tank system suppliers, landfill operations personnel, piping crews, concrete crews, demolition crews, testing personnel, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- The project required compliance with Republic Services requirements, Honeygo Run Reclamation Center site safety requirements, AECOM project requirements, environmental requirements, landfill operating requirements, erosion and sediment control requirements, leachate handling requirements, tank design requirements, process piping requirements, concrete requirements, testing requirements, and closeout requirements.
- Johnston Construction Company performed construction services for the Honeygo Run Reclamation Center Leachate Tank T-2 Replacement project at 10710 Philadelphia Road, Perry Hall, Maryland.
- The executed contract package identifies Honeygo Run Reclamation Center, Inc. as the legal entity and Johnston Construction Company as the vendor for the Replacement of South Leachate Tank.
- The Work Order / Change Order form identified the project site as Honeygo Run Landfill and the project name as South Leachate Tank Replacement. It was issued under the Master Supplier Agreement dated September 1, 2024 between Honeygo Run Reclamation Center, Inc. and Johnston Construction Company.
- The project included replacement of existing Leachate Tank T-2 at the Honeygo Run Reclamation Center rubble landfill. The work was required to allow continued management, storage, and transfer of landfill leachate while replacing the existing tank system and associated foundation and piping.
- The project required modification of the existing leachate forcemain piping in the Cell 1C pump house. This work allowed site operations to pump all leachate temporarily to the existing northern Leachate Tank T-1 while Tank T-2 was being replaced.
- Temporary bypass work included construction of a temporary leachate bypass forcemain and temporary condensate forcemain around Tank T-2. This allowed the site to continue pumping leachate through the landfill forcemain system to the County sewer in Silver Spring Road during construction of the new Tank T-2.
- JCC’s tank isolation work included draining leachate from Tank T-2 and the associated inflow and outflow piping to isolate the existing tank for demolition. The work also included cutting, removal, and salvaging or onsite disposal of existing aboveground inflow and outflow piping connected to Tank T-2.
