Key Accomplishments

  • The work included new domestic-water piping, fittings, valves, supports, insulation, and connections required to place the rehabilitated tower and replacement water tank into service.
  • JCC furnished and installed the piping and connections required between the temporary water-storage vessel and the existing underground water-supply and distribution system.
  • Temporary-system work was coordinated to maintain water service to the Kings Gap facilities while the existing water tower and tank systems were being rehabilitated.
  • The project included installation of 2-inch blow-off hydrants, replacement of vent piping, connection of the new supply and distribution lines to the replacement water tank, and coordination with the other prime contractors.
  • JCC installed a propane-fired heater and associated liquefied-petroleum gas piping on the second level of the tower to protect the plumbing systems during freezing conditions.
  • The completed domestic-water piping was pressure tested, inspected, disinfected, and coordinated for return to potable-water service.
  • Johnston Construction Company performed the plumbing construction portion of the Rehab Water Tower project at Kings Gap Environmental Education Center in Dickinson Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. The project was completed for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and designed by Keller Engineers.
  • Under this separate prime plumbing contract, JCC furnished the labor, services, materials, equipment, and related items required to complete the plumbing work associated with the water-tower rehabilitation.
  • The overall project involved rehabilitation of the existing water tower and replacement of the water-storage tank serving Kings Gap Environmental Education Center. The construction documents divided the project among separate general, plumbing, and electrical prime contracts, with Keller Engineers serving as the project design professional.
  • JCC’s plumbing work focused on replacing the water-supply and distribution systems within the tower and supporting the temporary water-supply arrangement required while the existing tank and piping were removed from service.
  • The existing water piping inside the tower was demolished and removed from the connection point at the valve pit through the vertical tower piping to the existing storage tank. JCC then installed replacement supply and distribution piping from the valve pit to the point of connection with the new water-storage tank.
  • The new domestic-water installation included piping, fittings, valves, unions, couplings, supports, anchors, sleeves, accessories, and related components required to provide a complete and operable potable-water system.
