Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- Installed and maintained required erosion and sediment controls, construction access measures and temporary site controls throughout Johnston's construction activities.
- Performed site preparation, grading, staking, excavation, backfill, dewatering and restoration associated with the tank foundation and surrounding site improvements.
- Constructed and maintained the construction access road required for delivery of materials, equipment and Caldwell's tank-erection operations. The subcontract required the access road to be installed within 60 days of Notice to Proceed.
- Completed substantial tank piping and mechanical work, including piping, valves, manholes, fittings, accessories and connections associated with the new elevated storage tank.
- Installed the project's altitude-valve-related piping and appurtenances and coordinated piping interfaces with Caldwell's tank riser construction.
- Performed required piping testing and sterilization and supported preparation of the completed water system for operation.
- Constructed associated drainage and site features including catch-basin, splash-pad and drainage improvements, together with final grading, stone placement, landscaping and seeding.
- Installed required electrical conduit sleeves through the tank foundation and coordinated underground electrical conduit installation with the tank-foundation construction sequence.
- Coordinated electrical infrastructure with the tank structure so conduits, lighting and other installations did not interfere with ladders, platforms or tank appurtenances.
- Supported electrical and controls work associated with the facility, including electrical service, generator, instrumentation/SCADA, security, HVAC, lighting and associated conduit infrastructure as required by Johnston's subcontract.
- Returned to the facility following tank sterilization and filling to support startup of the electrical systems as required by the construction sequence.
- Coordinated closely with Caldwell Tanks so that the foundation, piping, access road and initial site work were completed before mobilization of the tank erection crew.
Concrete Services Division
- Performed specialized concrete construction for the foundation of Loudoun Water's new 1,000,000-gallon elevated water storage tank in Loudoun County, Virginia.
- Completed concrete work in accordance with the project specifications, addenda, Caldwell tank-foundation sketches and applicable contract drawings.
- Performed footing formwork, slab-on-grade formwork, curved-wall formwork and straight-wall formwork for the tank foundation and associated concrete structures.
- Completed concrete placement for the foundation footing, slab-on-grade and concrete walls.
- Performed concrete-finishing operations including float/screed finishing, trowel finishing, point-and-patch work and curing.
- Performed specialized concrete work associated with the tank floor slab, pipe-base anchor, heavy-duty apron, overflow splash pad and generator pad identified in the subcontract scope.
- Furnished and installed concrete accessories and provided labor associated with premolded joints, sealant and saw-cut joints where required.
- Provided labor associated with reinforcing-steel handling and placement coordination as part of the foundation construction.
- Provided winter-protection labor and coordinated placement of protection equipment supplied for cold-weather concrete operations.
- Coordinated concrete deliveries furnished through Johnston Construction Company and coordinated concrete pumping and testing activities required for the work.
- Installed and stripped the specialized formwork required for the curved geometry of the elevated-tank foundation.
- Coordinated closely with surrounding civil and tank-construction activities so the completed foundation could be turned over for subsequent tank erection.
- Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the specialized concrete scope associated with construction of the foundation for Loudoun Water's 600 Zone Water Storage Tank in Loudoun County, Virginia. The overall project provided a new 1,000,000-gallon elevated water storage tank together with the civil, mechanical, electrical and control infrastructure required for the new facility.
- The Concrete Services Division subcontract focused specifically on the forming, placement, finishing and curing of the concrete structures required to support the new elevated tank. The subcontract incorporated applicable project specifications, addenda, Caldwell foundation sketches and civil/structural drawings governing the concrete work.
Electrical Services Division
- Performed electrical work in accordance with the applicable Division 26 specifications, CH2M design documents, CTI foundation sketch, Electrical Drawings E-1 through E-4, Addenda 1 through 3 and the project control estimate.
- Furnished and installed extensive electrical conduit and raceway systems, representing a major portion of the electrical subcontract.
- Furnished and installed electrical wiring, boxes, devices, lighting fixtures and switchgear required for the new elevated water storage facility.
- Provided the specified transient-voltage surge suppressor for Panelboard LP-A, including the TVSS requirement identified in Division 26 even though it was not shown on the electrical drawings or one-line diagram.
- Installed security-system conduit with pull strings from the facility to the required locations, including conduit to the base of security poles, while security wiring, cameras, card readers, controllers and related security equipment were furnished by others.
- Furnished and installed control wiring for the Division 40 process-control systems, supporting integration of the tank's instrumentation and control functions.
- Mounted and wired the remote terminal unit (RTU) furnished by others, providing the electrical connections required for integration with the water-storage facility controls.
- Installed new electrical service equipment serving the water storage tank and associated electrical systems.
- Performed excavation and backfill for underground electrical conduit and associated ductbank work required to distribute electrical power and controls throughout the site.
- Coordinated electrical work associated with the project's emergency-generator system, while the generator, transfer switch and propane piping themselves were excluded from the Electrical Services Division subcontract.
- Performed required electrical inspection, testing and start-up activities associated with completion and commissioning of the facility.
- Prepared as-built/record drawings, warranties and operation and maintenance documentation required for project turnover.
- Coordinated electrical penetrations and installations with the tank manufacturer so electrical systems could be incorporated into the elevated tank without conflicts with the structural construction.
- Performed the electrical work in coordination with the overall construction schedule and participated in project planning and production meetings throughout the work.
