Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- The new tank was supported by an augered cast-in-place pile foundation designed to accommodate the site’s subsurface conditions and structural loading requirements.
- JCC installed new water-distribution piping, fittings, valves, restraints, supports, anchors, and connections required to integrate the new tank into the Town’s water system.
- Site improvements included earthwork, clearing, grading, drainage, paving and surfacing, security fencing and gates, erosion and sediment controls, seeding, and final restoration.
- JCC coordinated the demolition and new construction to maintain the Town’s water service and limit interruptions to essential operations.
- The contract included demolition of the existing Marshall Heights standpipe, construction of a new 300,000-gallon glass-coated bolted-steel water tank, and completion of the associated site improvements and incidental work.
- The project required JCC to furnish the labor, materials, equipment, tools, supervision, temporary facilities, testing, and coordination necessary to provide a complete and operational municipal water-storage facility.
- JCC coordinated the overall construction effort, including project scheduling, submittals, procurement, site safety, quality control, demolition, earthwork, foundation construction, tank installation, underground piping, site improvements, instrumentation, startup, training, and project closeout.
- The work began with coordination of the existing tank shutdown and preparation of a detailed demolition plan.
- The existing Marshall Heights standpipe was taken out of service in coordination with the Town’s operations staff. JCC drained the structure and managed the water, sediment, and organic material remaining within the tank before demolition proceeded.
- The existing standpipe was dismantled systematically from the top downward. Explosives were not permitted for the demolition work.
- JCC removed and disposed of the tank steel, abandoned piping, concrete components, utilities, and other designated materials in accordance with applicable environmental and disposal requirements.
- Areas affected by demolition were graded and restored to provide the proper drainage and conditions needed for construction of the replacement tank.
Concrete Services Division
- CSD furnished the labor, form materials, tools, equipment, finishing supplies, curing materials, and concrete accessories required for its assigned work.
- The project included forming and concrete-placement work for the foundation supporting the new 300,000-gallon glass-coated, bolted-steel water tank.
- CSD installed and stripped slab-on-grade formwork and coordinated the foundation dimensions with the approved tank-manufacturer drawings.
- The work included reinforcing-steel placement, welded-wire mesh, dowels, anchor-bolt setting, and coordination of embedded items and penetrations.
- The concrete work included joint materials, waterstop, caulking, and other accessories required for a complete foundation installation.
- CSD coordinated concrete deliveries, pumping, testing, reinforcing steel, anchor bolts, equipment, and winter-protection activities with Johnston Construction Company.
- The overall project included demolition of the existing Marshall Heights standpipe and construction of a new 300,000-gallon glass-coated, bolted-steel potable-water storage tank for the Town of Orange.
- CSD’s work supported construction of the reinforced-concrete foundation required for the replacement water tank.
- The concrete scope included furnishing the labor, formwork materials, tools, equipment, finishing supplies, curing materials, concrete accessories, and field supervision necessary to complete its assigned work.
- CSD performed its work in accordance with the project drawings, cast-in-place concrete requirements, erosion and sediment-control provisions, earthwork requirements, and the tank manufacturer’s foundation drawings.
- The work began with coordination of the prepared foundation area provided by Johnston Construction Company.
- Excavation, backfill, and stone subgrade were outside CSD’s direct subcontract, but CSD coordinated its work with these activities before beginning foundation construction.
- CSD verified the prepared work area, foundation limits, elevations, access, and readiness for formwork and reinforcing-steel installation.
- The principal feature of CSD’s scope was forming and concrete placement for the new tank foundation.
Electrical Services Division
- ESD furnished the labor, materials, tools, equipment, and supervision required for the designated electrical construction.
- The project included electrical demolition and make-safe work for the existing Marshall Heights standpipe before tank demolition.
- ESD furnished and installed conduit, wiring, electrical connections, circuit breakers, boxes, devices, and associated electrical components serving the replacement water-storage facility.
- The underground electrical work included installation of direct-buried ductbanks and raceways serving the new tank systems.
- ESD furnished and installed Quazite underground electrical boxes with Tier 15 covers to provide access to the underground electrical system.
- The work included heat tracing for designated piping and the associated power connections and circuit protection.
- ESD coordinated electrical materials and equipment furnished by Johnston Construction Company, the tank manufacturer, and other project suppliers.
- ESD supported electrical inspections, system testing, startup, operation and maintenance documentation, and preparation of record drawings.
- The overall project included demolition of the existing Marshall Heights standpipe and construction of a new 300,000-gallon glass-coated, bolted-steel potable-water storage tank for the Town of Orange.
- ESD’s work supported the electrical demolition, underground electrical infrastructure, electrical distribution, heat tracing, equipment connections, inspection, testing, and startup required for the tank replacement project.
- The electrical work began with the disconnection and make-safe activities required before demolition of the existing standpipe.
- ESD identified the electrical circuits serving the existing tank and coordinated shutdown of the affected systems with Johnston Construction Company.
- Existing circuits and electrical components designated for removal were disconnected before tank demolition proceeded.
- Electrical equipment and systems designated to remain were protected from damage throughout demolition and construction.
