Key Accomplishments

Johnston Construction Company

  • Mechanical work included water piping through the tank foundation and within the pedestal, along with valves, fittings, supports, and connections required for operation of the storage tank.
  • JCC performed applicable mechanical insulation work for piping and equipment included within its subcontract.
  • Electrical work included underground conduit, tank lighting, grounding, service and distribution components, and electrical connections supporting the tank systems.
  • JCC coordinated electrical and instrumentation interfaces with the tank structure, water-treatment facilities, SCADA systems, and equipment furnished by others.
  • The work required detailed coordination with CB&I, Libertytown Land, ARRO Consulting, testing agencies, and specialty subcontractors.
  • JCC supported system testing, inspections, startup, record documentation, and project closeout.
  • Johnston Construction Company performed the civil, mechanical, insulation, electrical, and instrumentation portions of the Mayne Property Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Libertytown, Maryland.
  • The project involved construction of a new 500,000-gallon single-pedestal elevated potable-water storage tank with an approximate tank-centerline height of 156 feet. CB&I Storage Solutions LLC served as the tank contractor, while Johnston Construction Company served as its subcontractor for the supporting foundation, piping, insulation, electrical, and instrumentation work.
  • The elevated tank was part of a broader water-infrastructure project for the Mill Creek and Mayne Farm properties. The overall improvements included a new water-treatment facility with a capacity of approximately 172 gallons per minute, upgrades to the well electrical systems, and construction of the elevated storage tank.
  • JCC’s work began with coordination of the tank location, foundation requirements, underground utilities, piping penetrations, electrical pathways, and construction access.
  • The reinforced-concrete foundation was constructed to support the weight and operating loads of the elevated steel tank.
  • Foundation activities included excavation, preparation of the bearing surface, installation of reinforcing steel and embedded components, placement of structural concrete, and backfilling around the completed structure.

Concrete Services Division

  • Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the forming and concrete-placement work for the foundation of the new 500,000-gallon Mayne Property Elevated Water Storage Tank.
  • CSD constructed the footing, slab-on-grade, and curved-wall formwork required for the tank foundation.
  • The work included concrete placement for the reinforced footing, curved foundation wall, and interior slab-on-grade.
  • CSD performed screeding, floating, machine troweling, point-and-patch work, curing, and installation of concrete accessories.
  • Reinforcing-steel and welded-wire-mesh placement were coordinated with Johnston Construction Company and CB&I Storage Solutions LLC.
  • CSD supported anchor-bolt installation and alignment for the elevated tank pedestal.
  • CSD coordinated concrete deliveries, testing-laboratory activities, concrete pumping, winter protection, and equipment furnished or paid for by JCC.
  • The completed foundation provided the structural support, dimensions, finish, and alignment required for erection of the elevated steel tank.
  • Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the concrete foundation work for the Mayne Property Elevated Water Storage Tank at 11795 Daysville Road in Libertytown, Maryland.
  • The overall project involved construction of a new 500,000-gallon, single-pedestal elevated potable-water storage tank for Libertytown Land, LLC. CB&I Storage Solutions LLC served as the contractor, Johnston Construction Company served as the subcontractor responsible for civil, mechanical, insulation, electrical, and instrumentation work, and Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the concrete foundation work as JCC’s concrete subcontractor.
  • CSD’s work began with mobilization of the concrete tools, equipment, form materials, lumber, finishing supplies, and accessories required for foundation construction.
  • The company furnished and installed formwork for the structural footing.
  • The footing forms were laid out, aligned, and braced to maintain the required foundation dimensions and elevations during reinforcing-steel installation and concrete placement.
  • The work included approximately 140 square feet of footing formwork.

Electrical Services Division

  • Electrical Services Division, LLC performed the electrical work supporting construction of the new 500,000-gallon Mayne Property Elevated Water Storage Tank.
  • ESD furnished and installed conduit, conductors, grounding, and electrical connections extending to approximately 10 feet outside the tank foundation.
  • The work included lighting fixtures, switches, receptacles, and electrical devices serving the elevated tank.
  • ESD furnished and installed a 30-amp NEMA 4X disconnect and completed cord-and-plug connections for the tank unit heaters.
  • Two heat-tracing circuits were installed above the condensate ceiling to protect applicable piping and systems from freezing conditions.
  • ESD furnished and installed the telemetry input/output terminal box and coordinated its interfaces with the tank instrumentation and control systems.
  • The company installed the Owner- or contractor-furnished antenna and antenna cable for the tank communications system.
  • Grounding work included the tank ground ring and connections to the foundation and base of the elevated steel structure.
  • ESD coordinated materials furnished by others, inspection and testing activities, equipment access, startup, and preparation of as-built record drawings.
  • Electrical Services Division, LLC performed the electrical portion of the Mayne Property Elevated Water Storage Tank project at 11795 Daysville Road in Libertytown, Maryland.
  • The overall project involved construction of a new 500,000-gallon, single-pedestal elevated potable-water storage tank for Libertytown Land, LLC. CB&I Storage Solutions LLC served as the contractor, Johnston Construction Company served as the subcontractor responsible for the supporting civil, mechanical, insulation, electrical, and instrumentation work, and Electrical Services Division, LLC performed the electrical work as JCC’s electrical subcontractor.
