Key Accomplishments

  • Pumped down existing wet wells as necessary to install new float switches, conduit penetrations and submersible pump slide rails, including removal and reinstallation of existing pumps to complete the work.
  • Installed upgraded wastewater pump control systems compatible with the existing Hydromatic pumps. Jay Street, Kochenderfer Road and Frances Ann Drive utilized four-float lead/lag/high-level control, while Orange Street incorporated a five-float arrangement adding low-level pump cutoff and alarm functionality.
  • Furnished and installed complete fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP) pump-station shelters on formed and poured concrete pads, providing durable weather-resistant enclosures for the upgraded equipment.
  • Equipped the new shelters with electrical load centers, receptacles, interior and exterior LED lighting, thermostatically controlled ventilation, weatherproof components and electric heat. The shelter ventilation system was designed for at least six air changes per hour.
  • Performed the project's comprehensive electrical rehabilitation, including demolition and new electrical materials, conduit, wire and cable, boxes, wiring devices, cabinets and enclosures, grounding and bonding, supporting devices, lighting, panelboards and surge-protection equipment.
  • Installed the Owner-furnished emergency standby generator and automatic transfer switch at the Kochenderfer Road Pump Station, including transportation of the equipment from the Township facility, installation, electrical integration and coordination of the generator foundation.
  • Coordinated generator installation checks, startup, simulated power-outage testing, automatic load transfer and building-load testing with the equipment supplier, Engineer and Owner to verify proper emergency-power operation.
  • Installed and integrated the automatic transfer switch with the emergency generator to provide automatic standby electrical service at the Kochenderfer Road facility.
  • Performed electrical inspection and system testing, including conductor continuity and insulation-resistance testing, equipment adjustment and operational review with Owner personnel. Record drawings and operating information were required as part of project turnover.
  • Completed paving and site restoration associated with the four pumping-station improvements and addressed final enclosure, electrical, conduit and pump-system punch-list items during closeout. The substantial-completion inspection documented the remaining closeout work.
  • New FRP equipment shelters provided weather-resistant enclosures for the rehabilitated stations. These structures were installed on concrete pads and incorporated electrical distribution, LED lighting, receptacles, heating and thermostatically controlled ventilation. Their construction provided durable, low-maintenance protection for the upgraded pump-control and electrical equipment.
  • The wastewater control systems were configured around the Owner's existing Hydromatic pumps. BRE installed lead/lag pump-control arrangements with high-level alarms at Jay Street, Kochenderfer Road and Frances Ann Drive, while the Orange Street station also incorporated low-level protection and alarm functionality. These improvements provided renewed control and monitoring capabilities while retaining compatibility with the Authority's existing pumping equipment.

Project Description

B & R Electrical Contractors, Inc. served as Prime Contractor for improvements to four active North Lebanon Township Municipal Authority wastewater pumping stations: Jay Street, Orange Street, Kochenderfer Road and Frances Ann Drive. The project included replacement of submersible pump slide rails, pump controls, building enclosures, electrical systems and associated site improvements.

Coordinated the rehabilitation work so that wastewater flows remained operational while individual pumps, controls, piping and electrical systems were temporarily removed from service. The contract required sequencing and contingency planning before decommissioning portions of the existing systems.
