Ocean City 15th Street & Worcester Street Elevated Water Tank Demolition

Key Accomplishments

• Demolished the existing concrete valve vaults associated with both former elevated water tanks.
• Removed existing valves, piping and buried utility components from the valve-vault areas.
• Removed the existing water-line connections between the valve vaults and tank risers where required by the Contract Documents.
• Plugged designated outlet piping from the demolished valve vaults with concrete as part of permanently abandoning the former tank connections.
• Removed miscellaneous underground utilities, concrete equipment pads and asphalt associated with the retired water-storage facilities.
• Performed required water-main utility demolition, plugging and capping associated with disconnecting the former elevated tanks from the Town's potable-water distribution system.
• Furnished and installed new underground water-system components required by the project, including water-main piping, fittings and appurtenances.
• Installed potable-water piping in accordance with Section 02650, including specified 6-inch ductile-iron water main and ductile-iron fittings with cement-mortar lining and protective exterior coating.
• Installed associated water-system components including gate valves, valve boxes and fire-hydrant equipment as required by the Contract Documents.
• Performed required hydrostatic testing and disinfection of newly installed potable-water components before placing them into service.
• Coordinated shutdowns, utility locations and tie-in activities with the Town of Ocean City while protecting existing water-distribution facilities that remained in service.
• Furnished and maintained the required temporary security fencing around designated construction and laydown areas at the two project locations.
