Key Accomplishments

  • JCC coordinated a Rotork service technician to inspect and adjust gate travel after the existing gate was determined to be over-torquing during the closing cycle.
  • Installed specially fabricated structural support brackets designed for loads of up to approximately 8,000 pounds.
  • The replacement brackets incorporated a ¾-inch A36 steel top plate and ½-inch gussets, with the assemblies bolted to the existing structure.
  • Utilized scaffolding and material-handling equipment to safely access and perform repairs on the existing headworks gate-operating equipment.
  • JCC provided millwright, operator, supervisory, and project-management support for the gate repair and equipment adjustment work.
  • Completed additional mixer base repair work for the Town of Ocean City under the same 2013-01 project.
  • Performed field repair work within the active Ocean City wastewater-treatment facility while coordinating directly with Town Water-Wastewater personnel.
  • Johnston Construction Company served as Prime Contractor for a series of equipment repairs at the Town of Ocean City Wastewater Treatment Plant. The primary work centered on the existing headworks sluice-gate operating system, where failed structural support components required replacement and the operating mechanism required adjustment.
  • Inspection of the existing gate system identified two broken operator support brackets. JCC removed the damaged components and installed replacement fabricated brackets. The new brackets were designed to withstand loads of up to approximately 8,000 pounds and incorporated heavy structural-steel components, including a ¾-inch A36 top plate and ½-inch gussets attached to the existing structure.
  • The repair also addressed operational problems with the headworks gate. Project documentation indicated that the gate appeared to be over-torquing during closing, requiring adjustment of the operator travel. JCC coordinated a Rotork startup/service technician for an on-site visit to adjust the travel settings and support proper operation of the repaired gate system.
  • Execution of the work required scaffolding, material-handling equipment, skilled millwright labor, supervisory personnel, equipment operators, and coordination with the specialty Rotork technician. JCC managed these resources to complete the repairs within the existing wastewater-treatment plant environment.
  • Additional work assigned to job 2013-01 included repair of a mixer base at the Ocean City wastewater-treatment facility. The Town issued a separate purchase order for this work in April 2013, and corresponding field time-and-material records document JCC personnel performing the repair activity.
