Key Accomplishments

  • Incorporated 1-1/2-inch-deep GatorGrate platform grating, structural platform framing, saddle clips, clip angles, mounting angles and 316 stainless-steel assembly hardware.
  • Provided a two-rail handrail system with 4-inch-high kick plates, utilizing yellow handrails and gray walkway grating.
  • Coordinated the required engineered design submission, which was required to be sealed by a Maryland-licensed engineer.
  • Johnston Construction Company served as the Prime Contractor for the FRP Walkway Platform project for the Town of Ocean City. The work was performed at the Town's wastewater treatment facilities in Ocean City, Maryland and involved construction of a new access walkway connecting the North and South Clarifiers located at 136th Street.
  • The project included installation of one fiberglass reinforced plastic walkway platform measuring approximately 3 feet wide by 65 feet long. The platform system incorporated 1-1/2-inch-deep GatorGrate for the walking surface with saddle clips, together with structural shapes, clip angles and mounting angles required to frame and support the walkway system.
  • The platform assembly utilized 316 stainless-steel bolts for assembly of the platform and handrail components. Safety features included a two-rail handrail system with a 4-inch-high kick plate along the walkway. The finished system was specified with yellow handrails and gray grating, providing a durable and clearly visible access route between the clarifier structures.
  • The project also required engineering coordination for the FRP walkway system. The design submission was required to be sealed by an engineer licensed in the State of Maryland, ensuring that the proposed platform configuration and structural components met the project's design requirements.
  • Johnston Construction Company managed the overall construction effort, project coordination, field supervision and installation associated with the walkway platform. The project was performed under PO #220251 for the Town of Ocean City.
  • The completed walkway provided the Town of Ocean City with a dedicated FRP access platform connecting the North and South Clarifiers while utilizing corrosion-resistant materials suited for the wastewater treatment environment.
  • The Project Was Completed On 25th September, 2015.
