Key Accomplishments

  • JCC’s scope included electrical-related work, relocation of electrical equipment from the old control building to the new building, demolition of the existing control building and foundation, BGE meter service relocation, SCADA integration, HACH equipment power relocation, and new building power circuit work.
  • Major electrical and controls work included connecting power to the PAX tank mixer, integrating the new altitude valve with SCADA, relocating SCADA power, relocating HACH chlorination equipment power, relocating conduit and CAT 5/6 wiring for SCADA, and coordinating final power connections for SCADA and HACH equipment.
  • The work included removal and plugging of the existing wiring penetration on the standpipe and relocation of the broadcast speaker electrical cable to a new underground cable serving the new control building.
  • JCC performed hazardous / lead-impacted soil removal, transportation, disposal, replacement with topsoil, grading, drainage improvements, and site restoration.
  • The project included one-year, three-year, and five-year tank warranty inspections, including inspection reports, photographs, touch-up / repair of coating failures where required, and coordination with American Water for tank draining and inspection access.
  • The work required coordination with American Water, Fort Meade, BGE, SCADA and HACH equipment requirements, tank operations, utility markouts, outage planning, hazardous waste disposal requirements, environmental compliance, Davis-Bacon requirements, and military installation standards.
  • Johnston Construction Company performed the Pershing Hill Tank Rehabilitation Remaining Work project for American Water Operations and Maintenance, LLC / American Water Military Services at Fort Meade, Maryland.
  • JCC’s work included electrical-related items associated with the tank rehabilitation project, relocation of electrical equipment from the old building to the new building, demolition of the old control building, soil removal and replacement, site restoration, warranty inspections, project management, submittals, safety planning, quality control, permits, and closeout.
  • Tank structure work included demolition of the existing control building after electrical equipment was relocated to the new building. JCC also demolished the foundation of the existing building to a minimum of one foot below grade. The broadcast speaker sound pole was power-fed from the existing control building, so JCC coordinated relocation of the speaker electrical cable to a new underground cable serving the new control building.
  • Piping and operations work included removal and plugging of the existing wiring penetration on the standpipe. American Water was responsible for draining the tank prior to this work so JCC could complete the penetration removal and plugging.
  • Electrical and controls work included connecting a power feed to the PAX tank mixer and integrating the mixer with the existing SCADA system at the tank site. JCC also integrated the new 10-inch altitude valve with SCADA.
  • JCC prepared and submitted the application to Baltimore Gas & Electric for relocation of the meter from the old control building to the new control building. JCC mounted the meter socket and conduit configuration required by BGE after BGE processed the application.
