Key Accomplishments

  • JCC furnished and installed a new 1-meter belt filter press system complete with control panels, motors, starters, instruments, pumps, and associated equipment required for a fully operational installation.
  • Installed a complete sludge-conditioning and dewatering system incorporating a gravity drainage section, pressure section, belt alignment and tensioning system, and belt-washing system.
  • Prepared the equipment base for the new press in the location of the existing unit and modified the existing sludge cake discharge chute serving the roll-off box below.
  • JCC provided the required mechanical and electrical integration, including conduit, cable, electrical boxes, panels, process piping, pipe supports, and valves.
  • Coordinated structural and building modifications required to remove the existing press and install the replacement equipment within the existing belt-press room.
  • Applied an epoxy protective coating to the belt-filter-press containment/cleanout area, including flooring, containment walls, and concrete supports.
  • JCC maintained operation of the existing wastewater-treatment facility throughout construction, coordinating demolition and installation so the sludge-dewatering process was shut down for no more than seven calendar days.
  • Coordinated equipment testing, startup, system integration, and restoration of the affected building areas following installation.
  • Johnston Construction Company served as Prime Contractor for the replacement of the sludge-dewatering belt filter press at the Town of Poolesville Wastewater Treatment Plant in Poolesville, Maryland. The work was performed under Contract 650-170 and involved removal of the existing dewatering equipment and installation of a complete replacement system within the existing operating treatment facility.
  • The existing 1.5-meter Roediger belt filter press and associated electrical equipment were removed and disposed of. JCC furnished and installed a new 1-meter belt filter press with all required control panels, motors, starters, instrumentation, pumps, and appurtenances necessary to provide the Town with a complete operating sludge-dewatering system.
  • The specified sludge-dewatering system incorporated a sludge-conditioning system, gravity drainage section, pressure section, belt alignment and tensioning equipment, and belt-washing system. The contract documents identified the Klampress 1.0 Meter Extended Deck Belt Filter Press manufactured by Ashbrook Simon-Hartley, or approved equal, as the basis of design.
  • JCC's supporting construction work included preparation of the new belt-press equipment base in the location of the existing unit and modifications to the sludge cake chute conveying dewatered solids from the press to the roll-off container on the floor below.
