Key Accomplishments

  • JCC completed the associated process-piping, fittings, valve work, concrete pump-base modifications, and installation of primary and secondary level-control stilling wells.
  • The work required carefully sequenced pump replacement to maintain operation of the influent pumping station and minimize the duration of bypass pumping.
  • JCC provided a primary bypass pumping system capable of handling 1,200 gallons per minute at 45 feet of total dynamic head, together with an automatically available equal-capacity standby pump.
  • JCC coordinated mechanical installation of the three pumps with the existing control system so that the pumps could be replaced one at a time while the remaining pumping equipment continued operating.
  • The completed work included certified pump drawdown testing, mechanical operational verification, operator training, project closeout, and turnover of a complete operating sewage-pumping system.
  • Johnston Construction Company completed the Raw Sewage Pump Replacement Project at the Adamstown Borough Wastewater Treatment Plant in Denver, Pennsylvania. The project was performed for Adamstown Borough and designed by Systems Design Engineering, Inc.
  • JCC served as the contractor for Contract A - General/Mechanical under a stipulated-price construction agreement. The agreement identifies Adamstown Borough as the Owner, Johnston Construction Company as the Contractor, and Systems Design Engineering, Inc. as the Engineer.
  • The project consisted of replacing three existing raw sewage pumps at the wastewater treatment plant’s influent pumping station. The new pumping equipment included three Owner-furnished, Contractor-installed Cornell Model 6NHTA raw sewage pumps, each equipped with a 20-horsepower motor.
  • The pump replacement was designed to improve the performance and reliability of the influent pumping system. The work also prepared the station for operation with a new triplex pump control panel and new primary and secondary level-control equipment provided under the overall project.
  • JCC coordinated the overall general and mechanical construction effort, including mobilization, site preparation, wet-well cleaning, demolition, bypass pumping, pump installation, concrete-base modifications, process-piping work, valve installation, level-control stilling wells, testing, startup, operator training, and project closeout.
  • The demolition work included removal and disposal of the three existing raw sewage pumps and associated piping, fittings, and valves identified for replacement. JCC also removed the existing bubbler bell, level transducer, stilling well, and magnetic flow meter located on the existing 5-horsepower pump discharge line.
  • The removed pumps, piping, valves, meter, and other unused materials were hauled from the project site and properly disposed of.
