Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- Completed site clearing, grading and general site development required to prepare the elevated-tank site for foundation and infrastructure construction.
- Performed construction surveying and layout to establish the tank foundation, site improvements, piping and associated project features.
- Removed and disposed of existing site debris encountered within the project area as part of site preparation.
- Constructed the tank's auger-cast pile foundation system, providing deep-foundation support for the new elevated water storage tank.
- Coordinated and performed required pile testing and foundation verification associated with the elevated-tank foundation system.
- The project specifications required the pile-supported tank foundation to incorporate a reinforced-concrete cap foundation, with pile design developed to support the tank, stored water and associated appurtenances.
- Auger-cast pile construction utilized the specified continuous-flight hollow-stem-auger installation method, with high-strength grout placed as the auger was withdrawn from the bearing stratum.
- The auger-cast pile specification required minimum 4,000-psi grout and placement of reinforcement into the fresh pile grout following pile installation.
- Installed CB&I-furnished tank foundation anchor bolts, coordinating the tank-support interface with the foundation concrete and tank erection requirements.
- Performed structural concrete construction at the tank base, supporting the pile-foundation and elevated-tank structural system.
- Completed the overflow splash pad and associated drainage/restoration work required at the tank site.
- Installed water-system piping associated with the elevated tank, including watermain, valves, fittings and hydrant-related work within JCC's civil/mechanical package.
Concrete Services Division
- Concrete Services Division, LLC served as Trade Subcontractor to Johnston Construction Company for the concrete portion of the foundation supporting the new 750,000-gallon S.E. Milford Elevated Storage Tank.

- Mobilized and demobilized concrete equipment, tools and supplies required to execute the foundation-concrete package.
- Furnished form materials and lumber and performed installation and stripping of concrete forms for the tank-foundation construction.
- The subcontract billing schedule identified approximately 913 square feet of foundation formwork, including footing, slab-on-grade and substantial curved-wall forming.
- Formed approximately 792 square feet of curved foundation wall, representing the largest individual formwork component identified in CSD's pricing schedule.
- Performed concrete-placement labor for approximately 84 cubic yards of foundation concrete, including wall and slab-on-grade construction.
- The foundation-concrete schedule included approximately 74.5 cubic yards of wall concrete, together with slab-on-grade placements associated with the tank foundation.
- Completed concrete-finishing operations incorporating float/screed finishing, machine-trowel finishing, point-and-patch work and bag finishing.
- Performed concrete curing across approximately 1,960 square feet of completed concrete surfaces.
- Furnished labor and materials for concrete accessories including waterstop, caulking, vapor barrier, premolded joint material, saw-cut joints and joint sealing.
- Performed reinforcing-steel placement, with the subcontract billing schedule identifying approximately 3.67 tons of reinforcing steel within the foundation-concrete work.
- Provided associated reinforcing-mesh placement and concrete reinforcement support as part of the structural foundation package.
- Coordinated concrete construction around the project's auger-cast pile foundation system, including pile-top chipping where required to prepare the deep-foundation interface for subsequent concrete work.
