Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- The company constructed a new 750,000-gallon composite elevated water storage structure consisting of a reinforced-concrete foundation and pedestal supporting a glass-lined, bolted-steel water tank.
- JCC protected the existing 500,000-gallon standpipe and communications building, both of which remained operational throughout construction.
- The work included excavation, foundation construction, concrete placement, structural coordination, backfill, grading, erosion and sediment controls, and site restoration.
- JCC installed the tank’s potable-water piping, overflow piping, tank-drain piping, floor-drain piping, valves, supports, penetrations, and associated mechanical appurtenances.
- The company coordinated electrical and lighting improvements required for the elevated tank and supporting site facilities.
- JCC performed material testing, system testing, tank filling, leakage testing, cleaning, disinfection, and startup activities before the tank was placed into service.
- The project was carefully coordinated within a residential area to protect neighboring homes, maintain local traffic access, and minimize construction impacts.
- The completed facility increased the Authority’s finished-water storage capacity and strengthened the reliability of the local water-distribution system.
- Johnston Construction Company performed the South Park Street Elevated Water Storage Tank project for Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority in Dallastown, Pennsylvania.
- The project replaced an aging 250,000-gallon steel standpipe with a new 750,000-gallon composite elevated water storage tank.
- The new structure combined a reinforced-concrete support pedestal with a glass-lined, bolted-steel water-storage tank, providing the Authority with substantially greater storage capacity and a modern, durable water-storage facility.
- Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority entered directly into the construction agreement with Johnston Construction Company.
Concrete Services Division
- Concrete Services Division performed the concrete construction supporting the new 750,000-gallon elevated water storage tank at South Park Street.
- CSD furnished the labor, form materials, tools, supplies, and concrete-placement services required for the tank foundation.
- The company installed and stripped the footing and slab-on-grade formwork required for the reinforced-concrete foundation system.
- CSD coordinated placement of approximately 232 cubic yards of concrete for the tank foundation and supporting slab construction.
- The concrete work included footing placement, slab-on-grade placement, floating, screeding, machine troweling, finishing, and curing.
- CSD installed dowels and coordinated concrete accessories, including premolded joint material, waterstops, caulking, and related components.
- The company coordinated concrete deliveries, pumping services, testing activities, and construction equipment furnished or paid for by JCC.
- CSD provided winter-protection labor and coordinated placement of blankets and heaters when required by project conditions.
- All work was performed under applicable prevailing-wage requirements and in coordination with the tank foundation drawings and manufacturer’s foundation design.
- The completed foundation provided the structural base required for the concrete pedestal and 750,000-gallon glass-lined, bolted-steel water-storage tank.
- Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the concrete portion of the Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority South Park Street Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Dallastown, Pennsylvania.
- The overall project replaced an existing 250,000-gallon water standpipe with a new 750,000-gallon composite elevated water-storage tank.
- The new storage structure consisted of a reinforced-concrete foundation and concrete pedestal supporting a glass-lined, bolted-steel potable-water tank.
- Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority served as the Owner, and James R. Holley & Associates, Inc. prepared the project plans and specifications under JRH Project No. 180612. The prime construction documents identify the principal project as removal of the existing standpipe and construction of the new 750,000-gallon elevated tank.
Electrical Services Division
- Electrical Services Division performed the electrical construction supporting the new 750,000-gallon South Park Street elevated water storage tank.
- ESD made the existing 250,000-gallon standpipe electrically safe before demolition activities began.
- The company furnished and installed PVC conduit, electrical conductors, equipment connections, boxes, devices, and associated electrical materials.
- ESD constructed approximately 90 feet of underground electrical duct bank between the existing facilities and the new elevated tank.
- The company extended the existing electrical service from the existing panelboard to a new panelboard furnished and installed within the new tank structure.
- ESD installed interior and exterior lighting, switches, receptacles, and approximately 20 light fixtures identified in its electrical proposal.
- The company furnished and installed the grounding and bonding systems required for the new elevated tank, panelboard, electrical equipment, raceways, and supporting structures.
- ESD installed two four-inch spare conduits between the personnel door and overhead door for future electrical use.
- Electrical work was coordinated with the concrete foundation, pedestal construction, tank erection, mechanical piping, access systems, and ongoing operation of the existing water-storage facilities.
- ESD prepared electrical submittals, operations and maintenance information, testing coordination, startup support, and final as-built record drawings.
- Electrical Services Division, LLC performed the electrical portion of the Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority South Park Street Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Dallastown, Pennsylvania.
- The overall project replaced an existing 250,000-gallon water standpipe with a new 750,000-gallon composite elevated water-storage tank.
- The completed structure consisted of a reinforced-concrete foundation and pedestal supporting a glass-lined, bolted-steel potable-water storage vessel.
- Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority served as the Owner, and James R. Holley & Associates, Inc. prepared the project plans and technical specifications under JRH Project No. 180612.
