Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- The project included site layout, surveying, utility coordination, preliminary site preparation, tank-foundation excavation, structural backfill, reinforced-concrete foundation construction, and installation of CB&I-furnished anchor bolts.
- JCC prepared the site for tank construction, including installation of the crane-access road, stone working area, crane pad, and hoist deadman required for tank erection.
- The civil scope included installation of valves, fittings, vaults, manholes, approximately 12-inch water-main piping, and an 8-inch tank-drain system.
- JCC furnished and installed the tank piping, valves, pipe supports, thrust blocks, taps, sampling lines, and associated mechanical components extending through the tank foundation and into the tank pedestal.
- The project included installation of the concrete floor within the base of the tank, complete with drainage provisions and coordination with the tank piping and structural components.
- JCC completed electrical and instrumentation work, including electrical service, underground ductbanks, conduit, panels, lighting, receptacles, tank grounding, tank lighting, and water-level instrumentation.
- JCC furnished and installed a radar water-level transmitter and electrically connected the tank mixing system furnished and installed by others.
- The work included geotechnical verification, subgrade inspection, soil-compaction testing, concrete testing, piping testing, flushing, disinfection, startup coordination, record drawings, warranties, operation and maintenance information, and final closeout.
- Johnston Construction Company completed the civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation portion of the Southfields Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Elkton, Maryland.
- The project involved construction of a new 600,000-gallon elevated water storage tank within the Southfields development. CB&I was responsible for the prime contract with the Town of Elkton, while JCC was retained to complete the associated civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work.
- JCC coordinated the overall performance of its work with CB&I’s tank design, fabrication, delivery, erection, painting, and tank-equipment activities.
- JCC’s scope began with project layout and surveying for the tank work. JCC established the required tank-foundation location, working limits, elevations, piping alignments, electrical routes, and other field-control information necessary to complete its assigned work.
Concrete Services Division
- Concrete Services Division, LLC completed the concrete work associated with the Southfields 600,000-Gallon Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Elkton, Maryland.
- CSD furnished the labor, form materials, tools, finishing supplies, curing materials, concrete accessories, and reinforcing-steel placement labor required for its assigned work.
- The project included concrete construction for the elevated water-storage-tank foundation, splash pad, pipe pads, and associated structural features.
- CSD completed slab-on-grade and curved-wall formwork required for the tank-foundation construction.
- The work included concrete placement, floating, screeding, machine troweling, pointing, patching, curing, accessory installation, reinforcing-steel placement, dowel installation, and pipe-pad construction.
- CSD coordinated anchor-bolt installation and concrete interfaces with the tank-foundation drawings and structural requirements.
- The concrete work was coordinated with Johnston Construction Company’s concrete purchasing, concrete pumping, testing, reinforcing-steel handling, equipment support, and overall field operations.
- CSD’s work was performed in accordance with the project specifications, CB&I project specifications, and CB&I foundation drawings.
- Concrete Services Division, LLC completed the concrete portion of the Southfields Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Elkton, Maryland.
- The overall project involved construction of a new 600,000-gallon elevated water-storage tank serving the Southfields development and the Town of Elkton water system. The project specifications describe a single-pedestal welded-steel elevated water-storage tank together with its foundation, piping, electrical systems, accessories, appurtenances, and associated infrastructure.
- The project documents identify KCI Technologies, Inc. as the engineer responsible for the project specifications and engineering documents.
- CB&I / McDermott served as the tank contractor and was responsible for the structural design of the tank and foundation, procurement, fabrication, and construction services associated with the elevated tank. The geotechnical documents describe the proposed tank as a proprietary single-pedestal Waterspheroid-type structure manufactured and supplied by McDermott/CB&I.
- CSD’s concrete work supported construction of the elevated-tank foundation and related concrete features.
- The subcontract required CSD to furnish the labor, materials, tools, and concrete-forming resources necessary for the forming and concrete placement of the tank foundation, splash pad, and pipe pads. The work was required to comply with the project contract documents, elevated-water-tank specifications, CSD control estimate, CB&I project specifications, and CB&I foundation drawings.
Electrical Services Division
- Electrical Services Division, LLC completed the electrical work associated with the Southfields Elevated Water Storage Tank project in Elkton, Maryland.
- ESD furnished the labor, materials, tools, equipment, and supervision required to construct the electrical systems serving the new 600,000-gallon elevated water storage tank.
