Key Accomplishments
Johnston Construction Company
- JCC’s scope included demolition, bypass pumping, dewatering, earthwork, water service, paving, fencing, cast-in-place concrete, metal fabrications, moisture protection, doors, painting, protective lining, and related site work.
- The project included installation of a wet well mounted pumping station, pump control system, remote terminal unit, precast concrete control building, piping, valves, fittings, sluice gate, plumbing, heating, ventilation, electrical service and distribution, lighting, standby generator, and automatic transfer switch.
- JCC coordinated mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation, pumping station equipment, generator, automatic transfer switch, SCADA communications, startup, testing, demonstration, operator training, and closeout requirements.
- The work required maintaining wastewater pumping operations through temporary bypass pumping until the new station was operational and accepted.
- Johnston Construction Company completed the St. Mary’s Square Wastewater Pumping Station Replacement project for the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission. The work was performed for Contract No. 8121SS.
- The project consisted of the demolition and replacement of the existing St. Mary’s Square Wastewater Pumping Station serving the St. Mary’s Square / Lexington Park area. JCC furnished the labor, materials, tools, equipment, utilities, transportation, supervision, and coordination required to complete the work in accordance with the contract documents, specifications, drawings, and addenda.
- The overall scope included demolition of the existing pumping station facilities and construction of a complete, fully finished, and operable replacement wastewater pumping station. The work included bypass pumping, dewatering, excavation support, earthwork, water service, asphalt pavement, pavement patching and repair, fencing and gates, cast-in-place concrete, grout, metal fabrications, under-slab vapor retarder, sealants and caulking, FRP doors, painting, and protective lining.
- The pumping station work included a wet well mounted pumping station, pump control system, remote terminal unit, precast concrete control building, piping, valves, elastomeric check valves, sluice gate, plumbing, heating and ventilation equipment, and related mechanical systems.
- Electrical and controls work included general electrical provisions, basic electrical materials and methods, electrical conduit trenching and backfill, service and distribution, grounding, lighting, standby power generator system, service entrance automatic transfer switch, wiring, instrumentation, controls, and related electrical appurtenances required for a complete operating station.
- JCC coordinated the pre-negotiated wet well mounted pumping station and pump control system scope, including pumping equipment, controls, submittals, installation coordination, startup, demonstration, training, and final turnover.
- The project required careful coordination with the Owner, Engineer, utility providers, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and operations personnel to maintain wastewater service during construction. Temporary bypass pumping remained in place until the new pumping station was started, tested, demonstrated, and accepted for operation.
- The replacement station required startup, a demonstration period, operator training, operation and maintenance manuals, spare parts coordination, SCADA communication testing, punch list completion, final cleanup, as-built drawings, and closeout documentation.
