Key Accomplishments
- The temporary station included duplex submersible solids-handling pumps, interior piping, valves, controls, alarms, and associated operating accessories.
- JCC installed temporary influent and discharge piping, including the force-main piping, fittings, bends, valves, and connection provisions required to transfer wastewater around the permanent station work.
- Electrical construction included temporary service, approximately 300 feet of conduit and trenching, power and control wiring, grounding, a duplex control panel, cellular autodialer, battery backup, automatic transfer switch, and standby generator.
- JCC constructed the temporary access road and equipment pads necessary to support installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of the pumping equipment.
- The system was designed to maintain wastewater service while the permanent Pumping Station No. 8 facilities were constructed and connected.
- At the conclusion of temporary service, JCC converted the temporary wet well to its permanent manhole configuration and removed the temporary pumping equipment and related appurtenances.
- Johnston Construction Company performed the temporary pump-around portion of the Stonehaven Neighborhood Pumping Station No. 8 project in Charles County, Maryland.
- The project supported construction of a new wastewater pumping station serving the Stonehaven Neighborhood within the Village of Wooded Glen development.
- St. Charles Community, LLC contracted with JCC to furnish, install, commission, and ultimately remove the temporary pumping facilities required to maintain wastewater flow while the permanent station and connecting utilities were under construction.
- The Work Agreement identifies St. Charles Community, LLC as the Contractor and Johnston Construction Company as the Subcontractor. The project plans and technical requirements were prepared by Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP.
- The permanent Pumping Station No. 8 project included a below-grade pumping station, cast-in-place concrete construction, a precast station building, pumps, piping, valves, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, utility connections, testing, startup, and training.
- Because portions of the work required shutdowns and connections to active wastewater systems, temporary pumping or pump-and-haul operations were required whenever the available wet-well storage and allowable shutdown duration were insufficient.
Project Description
Johnston Construction Company furnished and installed a complete temporary pump-around system supporting construction and commissioning of Stonehaven Neighborhood Pumping Station No. 8.
JCC installed an eight-foot-diameter precast-concrete temporary wet well with watertight, bolt-down H-20 access hatches, manhole steps, ventilation, and an epoxy-coated interior.
