Key Accomplishments

Johnston Construction Company

  • Constructed concrete ringwall foundation systems designed to provide structural support for the large-capacity propane and butane storage tanks and accommodate their associated foundation components.
  • Installed CB&I-furnished tank anchor straps within the foundation systems, coordinating their placement with the specified anchor-strap installation drawings and setting requirements.
  • Furnished and placed structural fill material within the concrete ringwalls to establish the required supporting conditions beneath the storage tank foundation areas.
  • Installed 12.5-inch-thick sand cushions within the ringwall foundations, providing a prepared supporting layer for the specified tank foundation arrangements.
  • JCC's scope included installation of PVC sleeves through the concrete ringwalls and conduit infrastructure within the foundation sand cushions to accommodate tank foundation heating and temperature-monitoring equipment.
  • Installed 3-inch-thick, unreinforced concrete leveling pads over cellular glass block insulation previously installed by CB&I, providing the specified finished foundation surfaces.
  • Coordinated concrete and backfill placement testing, construction documentation, and quality-control requirements associated with the industrial tank foundation construction.
  • Another significant portion of the project involved furnishing and placing structural fill material within the concrete ringwall foundations. The structural backfill provided supporting material within the foundation areas and formed part of the prepared base beneath the storage tanks. Johnston Construction Company's scope included placement of the required structural material in accordance with the project specifications, together with the associated placement testing and quality-control requirements.
  • The Project Was Completed On December 31, 2016.

Electrical Services Division

  • Electrical Services Division, LLC (ESD) served as Trade Subcontractor to Johnston Construction Company for the electrical installation work associated with a 200,000-barrel propane storage tank and a 125,000-barrel butane storage tank at the Utica East Ohio Midstream facility in Scio, Ohio.
  • ESD's work included installation and termination of heat trace cabling associated with the foundation heating systems serving the two large industrial storage tanks.
  • Installed and terminated RTD cabling to support temperature-monitoring provisions incorporated into the storage tank foundation heating systems.
  • Provided installation and electrical terminations for the foundation heating control panel, supporting the electrical infrastructure required for the tank foundation heating equipment.
  • Furnished and installed specified electrical raceway components, including 1-inch and 2-inch aluminum conduits and fittings, 1-5/8-inch Unistrut channel, heat trace cable termination boxes, 1-inch liquidtight flexible conduit and connections, and No. 10 XHHW copper conductors.
  • Constructed concrete foundations for two electrical control panels, providing the supporting installations required for the foundation heating control equipment.
  • Coordinated electrical installation activities with Johnston Construction Company, including integration with foundation heating conduits and sleeves installed under JCC's civil construction scope.
  • Performed electrical construction within an operating industrial project environment, coordinating material deliveries, installation sequencing, and field activities with the overall tank foundation construction schedule.
  • The contracted electrical work was limited to the foundation heating and associated control infrastructure. Tank lighting, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and the supply of major control and instrumentation components were excluded from ESD's subcontract. This distinction separated ESD's specialized electrical responsibilities from the broader tank construction and equipment supply activities performed under other project scopes.
  • The Project Was Completed On December 31, 2016.
