Key Accomplishments
- JCC furnished and installed a second 25 HP Grundfos CR90-2-2 pump rated for approximately 325 GPM at 275 feet of head, along with a new sump pump serving the upgraded facility.
- Installed a 7.5 HP Kaeser compressed-air system rated for 125 psi with an integrated refrigerated dryer and approximately 80 feet of Schedule 40 black-steel air piping.
- Installed seven pneumatically actuated valves, seven stainless-steel wafer-style check valves, and five manually operated butterfly valves in multiple process-piping sizes.
- JCC coordinated replacement of existing process valves by temporarily pinching the existing 2-inch and 6-inch HDPE lines, allowing the valve work to proceed within the operating pump station.
- Installed new SDR 11 HDPE process piping in 2-inch, 4-inch, and 6-inch sizes with associated fittings and connections to the existing piping system.
- Modified the existing discharge-main thrust block and constructed a new reinforced-concrete discharge thrust block using doweled reinforcing steel, bonding agent, and 4,000 psi concrete.
- JCC installed electrical conduit and wiring associated with the upgraded pump-station equipment and automated-control system in accordance with Waste Management’s electrical sketches and wiring schedule.
- Installed owner-furnished instrumentation including six pressure transmitters, four leak detectors, one flow meter, four level floats, and two contact probes.
- Installed a new 480-volt electric unit heater with integral thermostat for the pump-house facility.
- Coordinated installation and integration of the upgraded pumping, piping, pneumatic, electrical, and instrumentation systems within the existing Valley Landfill pump station.
- Johnston Construction Company served as Prime Contractor for the Valley Landfill Pump Station Upgrades for Waste Management in Irwin, Pennsylvania. The project involved substantial mechanical and electrical upgrades to the existing pump station, including replacement pumping equipment, process piping, pneumatic valves, compressed-air equipment, electrical infrastructure, and instrumentation.
- A major portion of the work consisted of furnishing and installing two new high-head vertical multistage pumps. The larger unit was a 50 HP Grundfos CR90-3-1 pump designed for approximately 425 gallons per minute at 300 feet of head. A second 25 HP Grundfos CR90-2-2 pump was designed for approximately 325 gallons per minute at 275 feet of head. New grout bases and anchor bolts were provided for the pump installations, and JCC also furnished and installed a new sump pump for the facility.
