Key Accomplishments

Johnston Construction Company

  • Johnston Construction Company served as the prime contractor for the design and construction of Waldorf Water Tower #6 for Charles County Government.
  • The project provided a new two-million-gallon composite water tower to support increasing water-system demands within Waldorf’s Development District.
  • Constructed the two-million-gallon composite tank, including its reinforced-concrete support structure, steel water-storage bowl, foundation, access systems, piping, and operating equipment.
  • Coordinated surveying, stakeout, geotechnical investigation, soil borings, structural design, permitting, material submittals, and construction documents.
  • Constructed the offsite water-main and access-road improvements connecting the new facility to the County’s water-distribution system and public roadway network.
  • Performed clearing and grubbing, excavation, shoring, backfilling, compaction, unsuitable-material removal, and placement of select fill and aggregate where required.
  • Installed erosion and sediment controls and maintained the measures throughout construction in accordance with Maryland and Charles County requirements.
  • Coordinated utility relocations and new utility services required for operation of the water tower and associated site facilities.
  • Installed the electrical service, distribution equipment, underground ductbanks, conduit, wiring, grounding, lighting, and equipment connections.
  • Coordinated tank instrumentation, level monitoring, alarms, communications, programmable controls, and integration with Charles County’s existing SCADA system.
  • Coordinated the County-approved system integrator for RTU hardware, software, programming, engineering, testing, installation, and controls integration.
  • Provided traffic-control planning and temporary traffic-control devices while maintaining access for residents, emergency services, deliveries, utilities, and normal roadway use.
  • Restored disturbed roadways and site areas through paving, milling and overlay, curb and gutter work, topsoil placement, seeding, mulching, fertilizing, and final stabilization.
  • Prepared record drawings, testing records, O&M manuals, training information, warranties, closeout documentation, and final project records.

Concrete Services Division

  • Concrete Services Division, LLC performed the concrete forming, placement, finishing, and curing work associated with Waldorf Water Tower #6.
  • Performed concrete work for the two-million-gallon composite water tower foundation, tank slab, splash pad, pipe supports, and elevated-tank floor.
  • Coordinated placement of approximately 345 cubic yards of concrete for the tank foundation and associated concrete structures.
  • Installed and stripped approximately 1,390 square feet of curved-wall formwork for the composite tank foundation.
  • Installed approximately 126 square feet of slab-on-grade formwork for the tank slab and related concrete improvements.
  • Placed approximately 269 cubic yards of concrete for the curved foundation walls.
  • Placed approximately 75 cubic yards of slab-on-grade concrete for the tank slab and associated flatwork.
  • Floated and screeded approximately 2,012 square feet of concrete surfaces.
  • Performed pointing and patching of approximately 1,390 square feet of formed concrete surfaces.
  • Furnished and installed concrete accessories including premolded joint material, waterstops, caulking, and related components.
  • Installed approximately 54 dowels and constructed six concrete pipe-support pads.
  • Coordinated reinforcing-steel placement, unloading of reinforcing materials, anchor-bolt setting, embedded items, concrete deliveries, pumping services, and testing activities with Johnston Construction Company.
  • Provided concrete boom-truck support and coordinated equipment needed for concrete placement and material handling.
  • Performed winter-protection labor and coordinated the placement of blankets and heaters furnished by JCC when required.

Electrical Services Division

  • Electrical Services Division performed the electrical construction associated with Waldorf Water Tower #6.
  • Furnished and installed the electrical service, distribution panelboard, surge-protection device, conduit, conductors, boxes, devices, and equipment connections required for the new water tower.
  • Installed interior, exterior, site, and tank lighting together with switches, receptacles, associated controls, and branch-circuit wiring.
  • Furnished and installed the grounding ring serving the composite water tower and associated electrical systems.
  • Furnished and installed heat tracing for two piping lines associated with the elevated-tank systems.
  • Installed the telemetry control panel and coordinated the antenna installation extending to the top of the water tower.
  • Installed electrical raceways, conductors, and connections serving the telemetry, instrumentation, tank equipment, lighting, and other systems included in ESD’s scope.
  • Coordinated electrical work with the composite tank foundation, tank erection, ladders, handrails, piping, mechanical equipment, instrumentation, controls, and site-development work.
  • Coordinated equipment and materials furnished by Johnston Construction Company, the tank contractor, controls representatives, utility providers, and other project trades.
  • Supported inspection, testing, startup, and operating-personnel instruction for the electrical systems within ESD’s contractual responsibility.
  • Electrical Services Division performed the electrical construction for Waldorf Water Tower #6 in Charles County, Maryland.
  • The overall project includes the design and construction of a new two-million-gallon composite water tower intended to support increasing water-system demands within Waldorf’s Development District. Johnston Construction Company serves as the prime contractor for the County Commissioners of Charles County, Maryland.
