Key Accomplishments

• Installed a new forward-feed pump, including preparation and placement of the concrete pump foundation, equipment setting, alignment, and associated electrical connections to the existing motor control center.
• Coordinated installation of process valves, instrumentation, pneumatic air lines, electrical conduit, control wiring, and communication connections required for operation of the expanded wastewater treatment system.
• The project included modifications to existing treatment equipment, including replacement of a flow-control valve and relocation of an existing 4-inch flowmeter at Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) Digester No. 3, with associated connections to the existing programmable logic controller (PLC).
• JCC performed upgrades to existing wastewater treatment blowers through installation of new belt drives as part of the mechanical improvements associated with the treatment plant expansion.
• Installed a new 4-inch stainless steel piping connection between the excess biogas system and the existing flare, incorporating specified pipe routing, slope requirements, and provisions for associated biogas safety equipment.
• Coordinated installation and integration of ADI-supplied process equipment, valves, instruments, and accessories with contractor-furnished piping, fittings, supports, and installation materials.
• The construction work included modifications to existing process piping systems, installation of pneumatic valve connections, and electrical and instrumentation interfaces between new equipment and existing control facilities.
• Supported the expansion of the facility's industrial wastewater treatment infrastructure through coordinated mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, and instrumentation construction activities.
• Johnston Construction Company performed construction services for the Y&S Candies wastewater pretreatment system expansion in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for The Hershey Company. Working as Civil Subcontractor under ADI Systems, Inc., the project's Prime Contractor and Design-Builder, JCC was responsible for a construction work package involving membrane bioreactor piping, mechanical equipment installation, process system modifications, and connections to existing wastewater treatment infrastructure.
• A major component of JCC's work involved fabrication and installation of process piping and system tie-ins associated with the expanded treatment facilities. The construction package incorporated wastewater influent piping, membrane treatment connections, permeate piping, and associated process interfaces. Installation activities required coordination of piping materials, valves, fittings, equipment supports, and connections between new and existing wastewater treatment systems.
