Yuengling Sewage Treatment Plant – Scrubber & Polisher Rehabilitation

Key Accomplishments

• JCC removed and replaced treatment media within the scrubber system as part of the rehabilitation work.
• Removed the existing entrainment separator / demister pad and coordinated installation of a replacement component for the scrubber.
• Removed and reinstalled the scrubber's internal top and bottom grids to facilitate media replacement and internal maintenance.
• JCC coordinated replacement and reinstallation of spray-nozzle components associated with the scrubber's internal treatment process.
• Performed work associated with removal and replacement of media within the downstream polisher system.
• Installed piping associated with the polisher tank drainage arrangement.
• JCC coordinated temporary bypass piping necessary to support the rehabilitation work and maintain appropriate system operation during construction.
• Procured manufacturer-specific maintenance components for the existing Heil Process Equipment Model 732.5-SP scrubber, including a demister pad, top and bottom grids, and spray-nozzle components.
• Coordinated final scrubber and polisher startup following completion of the rehabilitation activities.
• Completed the work within an active industrial wastewater-treatment facility while coordinating the installation around Yuengling's ongoing plant operations.
• Johnston Construction Company served as Prime Contractor for the Yuengling Scrubber Rehabilitation project at the company's sewage treatment facility in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The work focused on restoring and maintaining critical components of the plant's scrubber and polishing systems through media replacement, internal component maintenance, piping modifications, and system startup.
• The rehabilitation required access to the existing scrubber system for removal of the treatment media and internal components. JCC mobilized to the operating facility and established the temporary work platform necessary to perform the work. Existing scrubber media was removed to allow inspection, maintenance, and installation of replacement media.
